From 22nd July, we will be opening our retail space and offering masterclass experiences, then from 28th July we will also be offering distillery experiences on top of this. Mr Troughton said: “Blair Castle is fortunate to have one of the best archives of any historic house in Scotland and it’s been wonderful to see the story of these fabulous bottles come to life in the archives.

By the 1970s, Bell’s was being built into the UK’s top-selling blended Scotch and, as a result, Blair Athol was doubled in capacity. Guinness (which bought Bell’s in 1985, and after further mergers evolved into Diageo) opened a visitor’s centre in 1987.

Joe Wilson, head curator and spirits specialist at Whisky Auctioneer, claims the bottles contain the “world’s oldest scotch whisky” and said being able to offer them at auction is “truly a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence”. Dewar’s Distillery is located on the outskirts of the picturesque small market town of Aberfeldy, just over 20 minutes from Atholl PalaceHotel. Even today, the Aberfeldy Distillery, is considered ‘The home to Dewar’s World of Whisky’ this is because it is of great importance as it is the home of the respected single malt that is the heart of the Dewar’s family of blends. The Visitors’ Centre Get to Perth-Inverness road via the A9 dual carriageway and alight at the junction where you’d see a signpost that bears the direction of Pitlochry. Travel left and get under the flyover onto the A924 which leads directly to Pitlochry. Just one mile after exiting the dual carriageway, turn to your right and there lies the distillery. BP filling station is on the right. Train The original name was the 'Aldour'. Named after the Alt Dour burn (stream) from which the distillery draws its pure water. Blair Athol (pronounced: blair ATH-ol) is a quiet yet beautiful distillery that has modestly been producing a robust highland distillate for a lot longer than most currently operation distilleries. Founded in 1798 it has always been one of the more ˜under the radar distilleries but anyone who has had the privilege of visiting it is usually bowled over by its old-style Scottish architectural beauty, not to mention the muscular elegance of its spirit.
