Since announcing their partnership in 2015, Universal Parks and Nintendo have said there will be four Super Nintendo World locations built around the world. The land at Epic Universe will not be the first, as one will have already opened at Universal Studios Japan and in Universal Studios Hollywood by then, but we are expecting this one to be the largest by size. Universal has announced that Universal Studios Singapore is set to receive a version of the land as well. But if phrases like “F.L.U.D.D.” and “Minus World” invoke a passionate response in your heart, and if you happen to have access to Southern California and have saved up money, then the very literal screams of delight that came from both children and adults emerging from the entrance of the park are all the testimony you will ever need. The AR glasses are the screen where you’ll see a variety of gaming elements. When you look at your steering wheel, you see your coins and items first. And since this is a race, you’ll see all the other virtual racers you’ll shoot your shells at, which is satisfying.

You can find in-depth impressions and moving pictures of Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge lots of places, but here are some intangibles. Throughout our journey around the course, we pass through settings taken directly from the games. Some of the scenes include Dolphin Shoals, Twisted Mansion, Grumble Volcano, and Rainbow Road. Different parts of the ride see us facing off against different characters from Team Bowser including Bowser and the Koopalings. But just look for the people in what I would describe as “Splatoon-like” uniforms, a white coat with different colours all over.Oh, and by the way, the food is actually not bad! But up until this weekend, nobody knew what the Super Nintendo World experience in Hollywood, California would actually be like when it was all fully set in motion. What is a full day in the park like? How long are the lines? How much does it all cost? And what’s Luigi like in real life? This version of Super Nintendo World will also have additional exits on the lower level that lead directly to the hub. The land in Universal Studios Japan does not have that, forcing all guests to exit on the second level.But what isn’t quite so clear before trying to figure out what to actually do in there, is that Super Nintendo World wants you to “play it,” kind of like a Mario game in and of itself. For me, I got to the Toadstool Cafe line around 12:15 PM, where I waited roughly 20 minutes in line to be told the earliest time slot available was for 4:00 PM for between 1-4 guests (with different scheduling opportunities available for bigger parties.)
