He did a great job showing us how indoctrinated one can be, how utterly convinced one can be of doing the right thing, forging forward through all the mud, because one is trying to save humanity. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. Hubbard did not announce this past life to those outside his inner circle, likely because Rhodes was a racist and often seen as the father of apartheid. He describes his thinking and his feelings as he went through tremendous ups and downs (and then mostly downs) as a high level executive in the organization. As for the content of the book itself, this was a massive undertaking by Mike Rinder to consolidate 42 years of Scientology plus the years of the aftermath after leaving into a single book, and do it well.

Throughout her account of this kooky, messed-up, enviable, and often thrilling life, her humility (her sons "are true miracles, considering the gene pool") never fails her.I commend the author for being vulnerable and not giving excuses for his actions but explaining how someone could fall for the lies of the organization especially when you’re pulled in at a young age. Instead, it ruled that in the single case in front of the court there was an insufficiency of evidence to reverse the IRS's deduction denial. The narrative gets off to a good start with Anderson’s nostalgic memories of her childhood in coastal Vancouver, raised by very young, very wild, and not very competent parents. It's crazy that this kind of brainwashing is happening but I'm grateful for those who are exposing the truth. After high school, he signed a billion-year contract and was admitted into Scientology's elite inner circle, the Sea Organization.

With words like that on record, you would expect a guy to at least have the dignity or moral fiber to cease promoting himself as some brave, victimized crusader. wasn't that the aim of people such as Stalin, Karl Marx, most religions, and, oh dear, most politicians. He helped negotiate Scientology’s pivotal tax exemption from the IRS and engaged with the organization’s prominent celebrity members, including Tom Cruise, Lisa Marie Presley, and John Travolta.

The most difficult part of his story in my opinion is his obvious pain and regret when it comes to his children. The audiobook reflects Rhonda’s own journey and shares the most direct way out for those experiencing hardship and the path to end pain and suffering endured by so many, and it shines a light on a future without anxiety or fear. Having an ex scientology member who used to be in a higher rank talk about his experience seemed extremely interesting, and man, I wasn't wrong. Learn nine essential ways to detox your mindset, feel lighter and more energised, to live a happier and more fulfilling life.

His blog is an excellent source of extra information, especially the stories of other scientologists that are not really his to tell in his book anyways. Mike Rinder's parents began taking him to their local Scientology center when he was five years old. And deeply affected victim narcissists know nothing other than manipulation by simultaneously playing the victim and hero.Having said that, I think people need to know about this cult and I'm glad I took the plunge and decided to read it. Random House presents the audiobook edition of Ikigai by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles, read by Noako Mori. First, Rinder invents a leading role for himself in the investigation of IRS informant Gerry Armstrong. Michael John Rinder is an Australian-American former senior executive of the Church of Scientology International (CSI) and the Sea Organization based in the United States.
