I've been using these for about a month on PC, along with a Topping DM7 DAC, Temblor T10 sub, Gator isolation pads, and some Jumperz Gold cables. Measurements were taken with a basic Umik measurement mic from MiniDSP.

If you've read the Sweetwater Studio Monitor Buying Guide, then you already know about the problems that go with putting your monitors too close to walls. That's when extreme low frequencies actually cause your walls to vibrate and act like big speaker cones, filling the air with false harmonics and ruining your ability to mix with accuracy. But sometimes, the shape and size of your room leaves you with no alternative but to place your monitors close to a wall. That's where the Eris E5's Acoustic Tuning controls come in handy. By cutting your Eris E5's bass by up to 4dB, you can compensate for this phenomenon, without neutering your sound. 80 watts of Class AB amplification provide plenty of gain and headroom All in all, sorry but no, the E5's are not the "bestest" of all, there is no such thing. They are VERY balanced and sure a pair of HS5's (more mid and high heavy in my opinion) or 305's (somewhere between the E5's and HS5's in my opinion) may suit you more but those have the best balance for what I do. Bringing my hand close to the ribbon cable increases the hum significantly, while gripping the cable and touching the signal ground eliminates it completely.

Choosing the right media monitors can be confusing. We shed some light on PreSonus’ latest

With technology steadily advancing, there are now more options than ever for anyone in need of affordable studio monitors. Many of these monitors fall short of the E5 in key areas, but there are a few that are worth your consideration. Before you spring for the Eris E5, make sure you’ve taken a look at these competitors as well. KRK Rokit 5 G4 The PreSonus Eris E5 monitors come with 4 thin foam pads which help to stop acoustic energy transferring into the desk. This helps to tighten up the bass, avoiding a muddy and unfocused sound. With exactly the same connectivity options, frequency response tailoring and design ethos, the E8 goes down to 35Hz and has more power in the amplifier department, with 75W available to the woofer and 65W to the tweeter, adding another 3dB to the maximum SPL of the E5. The crossover frequency is lower, at 2.2kHz, and the cabinet work is larger and heavier to take the eight-inch woofer and 1.25-inch tweeter. Measuring 250 x 299 x 384 mm, these speakers are more than twice the weight of the E5s at a hair over 10kg each, but follow the same style and general construction.

I use them in untreated 12-20 square meter rooms, volume wise there is no way you will ever need more volume than they can provide even if you want to throw a small party in the house (50 square meters). The music I record comes from electric guitars and all of them are tuned in standard D, electric bass with 55-110 strings tuned in standard D etc. I can hear everything on the E5's and pretty much as they were recorded. In fact as I am writting this review, I am listening to some Miles Davis mid fifties music and I can hear the uptight bass loud and clear (and that's with -2db on the bass freqs due to speaker placement). I tried the PreSonus Eris E5 monitors on a variety of music genres, and found that they performed the best on acoustic music and classic music.Built from vinyl-finished MDF, the internally braced cabinets measure a compact 178 x 195 x 260 mm and weigh a reassuring 4.63kg each. The slot-shaped port is located on the baffle below the woofer, while the baffle is curved and slightly sculpted around the drivers to smooth out any sharp angles that might otherwise result in diffraction. A discrete PreSonus logo illuminates when the speakers are switched on. With 100W of Class D amplification, the Eris E5 BT speakers deliver studio-quality sound with the convenience of Bluetooth® wireless technology. While Bluetooth is ideal for connection to mobile devices, you also get all the connections you need to make the Eris E5 BT the center of your listening experience. Connect your audio interface using the balanced stereo ¼-inch TRS inputs. Connect your turntable preamp, gaming system and more using the stereo RCA inputs. Or connect nearly anything else with the convenient front-panel ⅛-inch stereo Aux line input. We know modern recording studios can be anywhere from a spare bedroom to a multi-million dollar facility; that's why every studio monitor we make is equipped with controls that ensure the flattest response in your mix environment. Acoustic tuning controls allow you to configure the Eris E5 XT perfectly for your room—you get Low-cut, Mid, and High controls, as well as 3-way acoustic space tuning that allows you to easily compensate for the sonic consequences of speaker placement against a wall or in a corner. Studio monitor connections.

I have an iFi ZenDAC running my E5 XT's, with higher end audiophile cables. I have Audioquest upgraded USB cables running to my PC. I've even replaced the AC cords running from both Presonus speakers with better Audioquest 10 gauge models - still all to no avail. The constant low level hum, hiss, and in particular, a buzz sound is enough to take notice when you are not listening to music. It should also be noted that I am "not" using any balanced audio gear, so my connections between the DAC and the speakers are with audiophile grade RCA cables. With the linear scaling shown above, each grid interval is 1000 Hz. We can see there is a moderate dip beginning around 7 kHz all the way up to around 10 kHz. From there, there is a gradual slope all the way up to around 22 kHz, where the curve begins to taper off as we would expect since this monitor’s maximum frequency is 22 kHz. I'm a music producer and I was looking for a pair of speaker to use for mixing and when I get tired of headphones when writing music. I use them in my bedroom studio. My room is approximately 10 m2 so was looking for about 5" speakers. The balance between frequencies is not perfect, a little bit darker for decent speakers but lets be honest, you can buy only one speaker for that price. If you consider their price, the sound is the best you can get. Also I used Yamaha HS5 before and i prefer Eris. The connection options are really good. You have plenty of options. You can connect to your source via XLR, TRS or RCA. Also they are looking really good on top of my desk.

Adapts to your environment.

We outfitted the Eris XT studio monitors with a new EBM (Elliptical Boundary Modeled) wave guide designed by none other than Hugh Sarvis of WorxAudio, the mind behind our award-winning CDL loudspeakers and lauded R-Series monitors. The result? A superior high-frequency response and wider 100-degree horizontal dispersion to create a broader sweet spot. It’s ideal for group listening and collaboration—while narrow vertical dispersion reduces reflections from your desk. Silk-dome tweeters ensure snappy, accurate transient reproduction. Lows that go lower. However, the near-field experience is excellent for monitoring. They are rather loud when within close proximity and more than loud enough for most listening and studio applications. With their smooth, accurate frequency response; powerful amplification with tons of headroom; and acoustic tuning functions that ensure you always get the best sound... it's no wonder that the original Eris®-series studio monitors have been a runaway hit since their introduction. The Eris E5 XT is a substantial update to a lauded classic. Deeper lows and a wider, more controlled sweet spot (thanks to its new EBM wave guide design) mean that our best-selling studio monitors just got even better. Studio speakers with a wide sweet spot. I’ve already mentioned the underwhelming mids in an earlier section. This is where you can refine and adjust output to balance out the profile. While I always prefer things to be smooth out of the box, the PreSonus Eris Studio 5 gives you the tools to fix issues. For my taste, a slight bump in the mids and fine shaving of the highs worked best for my studio space. You can adjust the high end up to plus or minus 6dB to match the treble response to the room. Sometimes untreated rooms have a lot of reflections in the top end which need taming. Fully treated rooms may even need a slight boost. Be very sparing if making any adjustments.

Taking the E5 first, its outwardly conventional two-way, front-ported box houses a 5.25-inch Kevlar-coned woofer and a one-inch silk-dome tweeter, protected behind its own metal grille. Powered by a 45W and 35W Class-AB amplifier for the lows and highs, respectively, the speakers cross over at 3kHz. The specs give a usable frequency response of 53Hz to 22kHz, and a surprisingly loud maximum SPL of 102dB at one metre. PreSonus include good EQ options on all of their studio monitors. The Eris E5 monitors are no exception. You can use these controls to compensate for a small or untreated room, or less than ideal monitor placement.

We were impressed at the quality of these affordable monitors and expect them to be a popular option, especially for content creators." First, you’ll need to choose between passive and active monitors. Active monitors are powered by built-in amplifiers, so they’re more convenient and require less gear. The amps in high-quality active monitors are specifically matched with the speakers, which translates to better performance. Passive monitors aren’t powered and need to be paired with standalone amplifiers. This makes them more affordable and versatile, but managing the extra gear can be a hassle. For most people, active monitors are likely a better choice. For this test, I set all switches, knobs and filters to default and held my phone about 6 inches away from the monitor. I then played white noise using a synthesis plugin in my DAW. I recorded roughly 2 minutes worth of white noise in the analyzer using both linear and logarithmic scaling. Below are the results. It’s easy to feed audio to your Eris E5 XT studio monitors from an audio interface, mixer, monitor controller, or almost any other line-level source. Eris E5 XT monitors provide balanced XLR, balanced ¼” TRS, and unbalanced RCA line-level inputs. You’ll have no problem hooking your Eris speakers up to virtually anything. Accuracy defined. At a diameter of 5.25 inches, the woofers in the PreSonus Eris E5 monitors are small compared to some other studio monitors with perhaps 7″ or 8″ woofers. This means they’ll reproducing less of the lower bass frequencies.
