Since the late 2000s, the manga has been published irregularly, with frequent hiatuses until Miura's death in 2021. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received the second place in the Tezuka Osamu (Astro Boy) Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk .

During a siege, Guts and Griffith encounter the Apostle Nosferatu Zodd, a fearsome immortal warrior who nearly kills them before noticing Griffith's Beherit. The hundred-year war between the kingdoms of Midland and Tudor nears an end as the legendary Band of the Hawk mercenaries and the fearless berserker champion Guts, turn the tide in Midland's favor. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received the second place in the Tezuka Osamu ( Astro Boy ) Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk .

To cure the afflicted Casca, Guts and company battle Elf Island's magical defenses and finally reach Elfhelm, where the elven ruler opens the Corridor of Dreams, projecting Schierke and Farnese into the forbidding wasteland of Casca's mind. Many of the problems I've listed above pad out the books far longer than they needed to be; the story probably could have been finished by now if it didn't do all those things I complained about. The Hawks' berserker champion, Guts, will take on perdition itself to save his lover, Casca, from the profane violations that only Hell can offer! Three years pass and the Band of the Hawk grow in power and numbers as they are employed by the Kingdom of Midland for its Hundred Year War against the Tudor Empire, and Griffith rises in the kingdom's hierarchy after a successful battle. I think the battle in volumes 33-34 must be the most impressive one I've ever in seen in a visual narrative medium and it's unlikely for a film or a videogame to reach that kind of power and assurance.

A stunning body of work of a harrowingly arduous tale about Friendship, Camaraderie, and what not to do when some wisened old hag, offers you a funny looking egg. Guts is a severely traumatized vagabond that wanders the world, throwing himself into one battle after another in hopes of finding a meaning in the tremendous suffering he's endured. Berserk has been my favorite manga, fantasy story and perhaps favorite story ever made for over a decade now and I was really sad to hear that the man behind the masterpiece passed away earlier this year. I think it is interesting that a couple of the main characters have done truly terrible things but they are still more or less heroes.Their unborn child mutated by Griffith's rape into the Demon Child that would follow him, Guts leaves Casca under the care of Godo and Rickert as he embarks on a journey to hunt down Apostles and the God Hand after acquiring the Dragonslayer Sword and his prosthetic arm. After the Egg flees the Skull Knight with only a mortal wound inflicted on him, the Skull Knight takes Luca to safety as the living mounds of starved corpses rise up. Some books that I've read don't neatly fold down the middle, and you sort of have to fight to keep them open - not even a slight issue with this, probably due to the gently curved spine. Griffith is distraught at Guts' departure, and in a lapse of judgment he is caught sleeping with Charlotte.

Nina breaks down before seeing Luca, who disciplines her before forgiving her, and then learns that Casca followed her. Luca takes Guts to her tent upon recognizing his brand, only to find that a fearful Nina abducted Casca. The landscapes, scenery, architecture, castles, armour, boats, corpses and monsters all look excellent; there are lots of really brilliant images that succeed mightily in grandeur, awe, nasty brutality and grotesque. Guts then sees a newly reconstituted Griffith, yet could not attack him due to Casca while the others use the Apostle's appearance to flee as a Kushan legion arrives. What was all that detailed suspense for when Guts always ends up winning, as if the story is saying "he survives because we say so"?

The spirits pass Serpico and possess hounds that Guts fights off before killing a possessed horsed as it was about to rape a horrified Farnese. Created by Kenturo Miura, Berserk is manga mayhem to the extreme - violent, horrifying, and mercilessly funny - and the wellspring for the internationally popular anime series.
