Description

When Sarah’s remains are finally discovered near their hometown in the northern Cascade mountains of Washington State, Tracy is determined to get the answers she’s been seeking. And a family, a happy loving family completely devastated by the loss of their talented and daring younger daughter. The guy that’s in jail for Sarah’s murder is indeed, a seriously bad dude – he’d been in jail before for abduction and rape. I suspect the author included the chapter because he felt reasonably secure in his knowledge of the subject and hoped his readers would too.

Crosswhite is convinced that the man had been convicted of first degree murder based on planted evidence and the body supports her suspicion. He is the recipient of the Nancy Pearl Book Award for fiction and has twice won the Friends of Mystery Spotted Owl Award for best novel. So much detail into the mystery helped me follow the trial and the people completely and drew me into a world where I just had to know. There are a few red herrings and a number of moments of high drama and tension as the story unfolds, with the courtroom scenes being particularly dramatic.

The two sisters had been best of friends and Tracy has never forgiven herself for allowing Sarah to drive home alone. I liked the mix between mystery, drama and legal thriller, but I was very disappointed with the ending. Now, with the fresh evidence of her sister's remains in her arsenal, Tracy seizes the opportunity to reinvestigate Sarah's fate—and the possible conspiracy she believes led a man to get convicted for a crime he didn't commit. Legal thrillers are not really my thing, which is why I can only think of one I've read in the last decade. Dugoni uses vivid descriptions that help a reader to better understand the small-town environment as well as the weather, secrets, lies, and emotions that are prevalent in the book.Tracy has never been totally convinced of House's guilt and has continued digging into the case in an effort to satisfy herself of the fact that justice either was or was not done. I thought it was just right, brooding at times, thoughtful, building momentum and tension as I accelerated to its finish. And it also raises the issue of whether it is possible to trust oneself to become emotionally attached to another person following the experience of a marriage that had not survived a traumatic event. retells the events of that evening in flashback, recounting how, upon leaving a shooting championship, Tracy asked Sarah to drive her truck back to Cedar Grove during a storm so Tracy and her boyfriend could make it to their romantic dinner reservation.

I always cringe with the idea that a crucial piece of evidence will appear right BEFORE the end of the trial, or the lawyer will manage to break a seemingly intelligent person on the stand, making them confess in court and saving the day JUST when everything seems lost. The characters felt real (outside of the author having some fun with their names) and had some depth, but for some reason I was never fully invested in this book. But the hints of other crimes Tempe’s identification uncovers, particularly crimes against children, spur her on to redouble her efforts despite the new M.This takes place in the mountains of Washington State and one of the biggest elements of this story is the snow storm. She doesn't believe that Edmund House-a convicted rapist and the man condemned for Sarah's murder-is the guilty party.
