There’s nothing worse than scrubbing away at stubborn stains and obscured rims on the toilet bowl, especially when you don’t have the best toilet brush for the job. Sometimes, no amount of toilet cleaner or bleach can save you from this fate, especially if you live in an area with particularly hard water that’s prone to limescale.

To find the best toilet brushes to clean your toilet bowl, our Cleaning Lab experts researched the most popular toilet brushes available to consumers — everything from traditional bristle brushes to silicone and biodegradable brushes made from coconut husks. Overall, we found the Oxo easy to use, clean, and store. When storing it, we found it was completely dry after 24 hours with no odors or mildew. A curved handle might make it even easier to maneuver, particularly to get into the S trap of a toilet, but for cleaning inside the bowl, it’s quite effective.While cleaning, we observed how easy and comfortable it was to maneuver the toilet brush and how well it reached all the different areas of the toilet bowl. If there were multiple brush heads, we tested each brush head to see which one was most effective, and for electric models, we recorded the total run time. If the clay mask remained after cleaning, we noted how much there was and where it was in the bowl.

The toilet brush is lightweight and comfortable to hold, and we found it easy to maneuver and reach all angles of the toilet, even under the rim. The brush head is sturdy but soft, so even after applying pressure, it held up well and didn’t leave any scratches or scuffs behind. During our testing, we found that the lightweight toilet brush had a long handle that was comfortable to grip and maneuver to reach all around the inside of the toilet. We loved how simple it was to connect and detach the brush heads. We did have to touch the clean one to firmly attach it to the brush handle, but we didn’t have to go near it after it had been used—we simply pressed the button to release the scrub head into the trash.

We liked that the Tilswall Electric Spin Scrubber came with several scrub head options, but we couldn’t find a way to change them out without actually touching the brush. Though it cleaned up the clay mask, we found that two hands were needed to grip this long brush when it was held at certain angles. We would have also preferred there to be an included storage container. Simplehuman Toilet Brush with Caddy The brush comes with great brushes, looks great, it is built with a comfortable grip and has a great brush design. In addition, the brush has evolved, the Mr. Clean character has remained a steadfast symbol of strength, boldness and toughness—on grime. Most importantly, the mrclean toilet brush forunder the rim works well. It is designed with nylon bristles and has an angled design. We love that the white exterior of the canister and brush will blend well in lots of bathroom decor, but it's made of plastic, which isn't as eco-friendly as other renewable materials. The brush heads are not replaceable, so expect to replace the entire toilet brush itself every year or so. Still, no toilet brush is perfect, and we think this versatile choice can work well for most homes.
