Exposure also takes some getting used to. The Square doesn't have a full manual exposure mode (few instant cameras do), so you're going to rely on its ambient light meter to judge exposure. The problem with an ambient meter is that, in situations with mixed lighting, it can be off. You can brighten or darken shots by a stop using the EV compensation controls on the rear, and I recommend using the brighter setting when shooting indoors. The Square shoots a bit too dark indoors and in dim light by default. For nighttime street shots, set the camera on a tripod and use the remote to do a timed exposure, or the body's Bulb mode for long exposure.

The protruding viewfinder is very much designed for right-handers and is a little awkward for lefties. The Lomo’Instant and the Diana are both instant cameras designed by Lomogrpahy. These cameras work like Polaroid instant cameras, but they use Instax film. They are reliable and definitely capture that dreamy, lomo effect Lomography is an avant-garde approach to photography that uses quirky camera gear to achieve a lo-fi aesthetic. The Mini 90 has an electronic macro setting for more creative shots, as well as two shutter buttons to make it easier to snap portraits or landscape photos. Unlike with some other instant cams, you can turn the Mini 90's flash on or off. Over on the right hand side of the Lomo'Instant Automat Glass is a tripod thread, which could be useful for long exposure shots. Due to its position, you’ll either have to shoot in portrait format, or have a tripod which can turn to 90 degrees to shoot in landscape format. Lugs on the top and the bottom of the camera can be used to attach a strap. The Holga brand is synonymous with toy cameras and the lomo style. The Holga 120N is one of the most popular choices for exploring lomo on the 120 film format. A narrow aperture lens is pretty standard for an instant camera, as almost all models feature fixed or zone focus. The Lomo'Instant Automat Glass is an exception; it uses the smaller Instax Mini format, and because its lens captures an ultra-wide 21mm field of view, an f/4.5 design is possible as focus isn't as critical with such a wide angle.

Lomo has come to be a term that’s generally used for vintage cameras, budget cameras, toy cameras, and even your old instant camera. As it is, there is one built in lens which has a focusing distance of 0.4 metres and is equivalent to 27mm. You can also create multiple and long exposures, and there are coloured gels available in the box for the inbuilt flash. Lomo introduced the Instant Square as the first analogue camera on the market to use the Fuji Instax Square format film.p>Using a Lomo instant camera in combination with Instax film is probably about as simple as it gets when it comes to analogue photography. The wide aspect ratio makes the Wide less of a point-and-shoot than Lomo’s other cameras, as you have to think more about framing and composition. Still, if you take your time (and don’t mind lugging its considerable frame around) the results have just that bit more impact than the square alternatives. There’s something delightfully charming about the Wide’s oversized prints: significantly larger than the Instax Mini format found in cheaper instant cameras, yet more of a novelty than the typical square Polaroid prints. Instant film was already niche, and this is another step beyond. It’s not for everyone, but if you’re an instant addict, it’s a good addition to any collection. This camera has a 35mm film format which makes it affordable and familiar for people new to this style of photography.

As with most Lomography cameras, physical controls are kept to a minimum, but these all feel well placed and intuitive. Auto mode lets the camera adjust aperture (f/4.5- f/22), shutter speed and flash output. The Automat has a remote built into its lens cap, so you can more easily take group shots or exposures up to 30 seconds. (It has a tripod mount, too.) Zone focusing helps measure the proper distance for the best shot, and we liked its optical viewfinder. The camera and remote use two different batteries (sold separately). The 60mm f/8 plastic lens might sound a little odd if you’re used to the latest Sony or Canon lens, but that’s music to the ears of any lomo fan. Indoors, the results are mixed but you can still get some good images using the inbuilt flash. Focusing, again, is something you will need to experiment with for best results, but when you’re shooting a landscape scene you’ll probably find you have no complaints. Close-up photos take a little more experimentation and practice though.Jumping into Lomography might seem challenging, especially if your mainstay is digital photography. Unlike most entry-level digital cameras which are pretty easy to get started with, it will probably benefit you if you spend some time getting to know the Lomo Instant before taking your first shot. Most of the time, the shots produced are nice enough - there is a certain degree of unpredictability, but you’re always going to get that with instant cameras, and it will be that which appeals to many users.
