Finally, Homer talks about the concept of "educated hands," which explains that no matter who you are, and what type of swing you are implementing, the key to good golf is to teach your body (specifically your hands, wrists, and forearms) the correct way to move throughout the golf swing. You should know how to "feel" different types of golf swing motions. He uses chapter 4 to explain this concept. Challenge yourself. One of my favorite on-course practice games is to spend a few minutes around each green after I’ve played the hole, tossing three balls into various positions in an area off the green. I don’t let myself go to the next tee until I put all three within three feet of the hole. If I don’t, I toss them to another area and do it again. You can do the same thing on the range. Define a challenge and a limited number of shots to achieve it. Remember though, don’t just read them once and expect amazing transformations to your golf game. Instead, find a few one that interest you and read them over and over again. What’s crazy is that even though it was published in 2001, the content is still more relevant than ever. His book proves that while technology and gadgets always change, the fundamentals always in golf stay the same. This one of the best golf books for beginners and highly recommend it to anyone who’s played the game. A book that is very popular in the golf world that breaks this down, the idea of perfect swing is The Golfing Machine by Homer Kelley. In this article, we’ll break down the book, some of its biggest lessons, and see if it can help you “swing your swing.” The Golfing Machine Book by Homer Kelley

When the book was published in 1969, there were both skeptics and followers to Homer’s work. To the skeptics, Homer would always patiently approach criticisms with “That’s an interesting thought, but what if you looked at it this way?” He made sure that people understood that he did not make up the information in the book; that, in fact, The Golfing Machine is based on scientific principles covering physics and geometry. Homer – using the same problem solving techniques that he used with any job combined with the basis of his faith as a Christian Scientist – explained that he simply applied these age-old proven principles to the golf swing. And with that, The Golfing Machine was born. Homer Kelley (1907 – 1983) was the American writer of The Golfing Machine, one of the most comprehensive descriptions of the golf swing.

Chapter 1 - This chapter outlines Homer's overall theory of the golf swing and the way that he believes a student should learn it. He discusses how golf should be mastered step by step, and without a clear understanding of each step, a golfer will be plagued by frustration forever. He also states in this chapter that golf was never meant to be a "simple" game: "Demanding golf instruction be kept simple does not make it simple - only incomplete and ineffective." He later explains (in a vague manner) the "machine concept" behind the book. Understanding Chapters 7 and 10 (The links below are numbered 1-24, and correspond to both chapter 7 and 10. For example, #10 represents the explanation of chapter 7-10 AND 10-10). I have maturated in my teaching style over the years, and now espouse the fundamentals below as quoted from Homer Kelley’s great work “The Golfing Machine,” which allows instructors to teach over 446 quad-trillion swinging motions — one of which will work for someone. Your hands should be “low” in that your lead arm is hanging naturally from your shoulder, not extended out toward the ball and not too close to the body to allow a smooth turn away and through. Gripping down on the club is helpful, as it gets you “closer to your work.

Teachers are hindered by student’s attitudes, physiology, practice time and desire — it is up to the student to listen, absorb and apply the information given in the classroom (the lesson tee) in the best way for them personally. Sometimes this take two seconds, two minutes or two weeks, but if students review the lesson tape they are given they will see what the instructor is trying to do over the long haul. And if they have questions, they need to ask! That is what teachers are there for in the first place! How can you not love big John Daly? While he’s had his share of struggles, on and off the course, over the past three decades, he’s one of the most entertaining furious the game has ever seen. In his golf autobiography, John shares all kinds of wild stories from his entertaining past. RECAP: A golfer is a programmable machine that has 24 basic components, regardless of what the swing looks like. Based on the laws of physics, there are "optimal" ways to swing a golf club, primarily classified as either "swinging" or "hitting." He uses chapter 2 to explain these laws of physics, chapters 7 and 10 to explain all the components of a golf swing, and chapter 12 to classify all these components into either a "hitting motion" or "swinging motion." What are "Educat

It will then go left if the club face has closed past square to the target line at ball separation. The latest addition to his already impressive collection is How Champions Think (In Sports and Life). Dr. Bob Rotella beautifully relates the crazy game of golf to succeeding in life. He’s coached everyone from professional golfers, to NBA superstars, to top business executives and has found a lot of similarities among them. Chapter 8 - Simply a catalog of golf swing positions which Homer references throughout the book. I'm not sure why he decided to put this information in chapter 8... Meanwhile, a hitter creates club acceleration and impact with muscular force of the right arm. Essentially, the swinger pulls the clubhead down to impact position. But the hitter has more of a push motion instead.

Homer's book "THE GOLFING MACHINE" is subtitled "The Computer Age Approach to Golfing Perfection." It is a very detailed, precise and scientifically accurate golf textbook, a veritable encyclopedia of the golf swing, written in engineering language with complex ideas and explanations involving physics, geometry and math. Very few average golfers want all that complex information. Your Spine is not your axis of rotation, but, depending upon your weight distribution. it is near to it for most people. Whether it’s through the Internet, watching The Golf Channel or reading the latest book on the golf swing, you and your students are bombarded with information (and misinformation) about the golf swing. As an instructor, you need the most reliable, accurate and fact-based information available to successfully guide your students – but where can you find it?Of course, there are tons of other factors including amount of curve, trajectory, distance, and more. But I think that most golfers would agree that the path and club face at impact will determine the starting line and shot shape.
