Because I had a digital version, it didn't have any illustrations in it. I assume there will be in the finished copy. So I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to see them as they would have made the story come more alive, but I will definitely keep my eye out in the shops to have a little nosy at. I haven't read a book by Sophie before, although I have heard of some and been intrigued. I know they are usually children's books. But this book I think fits perfectly in the middle of kids and adults. Kids will love the magic and the fantasy and the adventure, but adults will appreciate the family and friendship and community. And together they make for a warming cosy story. I wish the snow girl would come to life. Then I would have a friend, a real friend I could trust, and I wouldn't feel so alone.' It was beautiful, Mabel knew, but it was a beauty that ripped you open and scoured you clean so that you were left helpless and exposed, if you lived at all.

Another child gone from their lives. It was a possibility she could not bear. She wound herself tightly, as if within her girdled ribs she could contain all possibilities, all futures and all deaths. Perhaps if she held herself just right. Maybe if she knew what would be or could be. Or if she wished with enough heart. If only she could believe.” This tale was inspired by the traditional Russian fairy tale, ‘The Snow Maiden’. While written for readers aged 9-12, it is the kind of book that will certainly appeal to older readers who enjoy folk and fairy tales. This is a story that shows the power of friendship, believing in yourself, taking risks and fighting for what’s right, even when it’s a hard decision to make. I will most definitely be recommending this to my pupils at the very least; I will definitely be purchasing this when it is released and there is a very strong possibility that I will be reading it to my class! (In fact, I would recommend any of Sophie Anderson’s books - they are magical! And I’m pretty sure there was reference to one of them at the end of this story!)

Young Tashenka (Tasha) has come with her parents to live on her grandpa’s farm. Following a traumatic incident some months before, Tasha has become quite withdrawn and is very lonely. She longs for a friend and when she builds a snow girl with her grandpa, she wishes for her to be real. If only wishes on snow could come true... Faina, the 'orphaned wild child', brings hope - and and zesty-energy to everyone in the community. She and her red fox disappear in the summer, return in the winter. the next morning, the snow child, and the clothing, are gone, and there are faint footprints leading away from where the snow child was built.

This would make a brilliant class read aloud for the winter months or would make a fantastic text to use as part of a KS2 traditional tales unit, being steeped in Slavic folklore, magic and mythology. Extracts could also be used as writing models, particularly for descriptions of winter landscapes that awaken all the senses. I thought the descriptions of the ice and snowstorms were brilliant, it actually made me feel cold. You can practically feel the cold. It would be a perfect read for a night in the depths of winter.

Este es un libro que no te deja indiferente, o lo amas o lo odias, o esa sensación me daba el autor antes de zambullirme en su trabajo. Iris then does what any unhinged kidnapper would do and decides to drive herself and Amaya both off a cliff together. It seems that Iris would rather die than be separated from her captive/"child". And that's exactly what happens, to Iris at least. She dies immediately in the crash, but Amaya survives because she's made of pretty sturdy stuff, it seems. So this story was beautiful with so many cute and heartbreaking moments. One of the best things in the book is the character development and the developing relationships throughout the story. From the start of the book, I nearly started crying because there was just scenes that were so heart wrenching especially at the end which completely broke my heart. One of the most obvious changes is the place where the plot unravels: in the book The Snow Girl, the explained story takes place in New York, and the disappearance takes place during the Thanksgiving parade; this is obviously quite a substantial change on a cultural level; in the TV series, the story takes place in the Spanish city of Malaga, which is also the hometown of the writer Javier Castillo, and the trail of the little girl is lost during the Three Kings Parade, the most important festivity of the year in Spain, and above all, the most magical one for children. On a visual level, this change produces a less impressive and agoraphobic effect compared to getting lost in the immensity of New York in an immense crowd. The different place obviously changes everything concerning the characters’ names. The disappearance and the kidnappers
