If you love Joanna you will love this book but if you are looking for inspiration that captures a certain style without looking like Joanna Gaines designed it you should probably pass. These poems are not something I personally need at this time and Home Body's similarity to Rupi's previous books makes this a 3-stars read for me. home body” is the newest collection from Rupi Kaur, the pioneer of social media poetry whose first collection “milk and honey” stole the position of best-selling poetry collection of all time from “The Odyssey.

And perhaps, as a “young adult” book of poetry, there is an appeal to something written more for commiseration than introspection. Maybe if she had written more than 3 words regarding this topic, her views would have been more clear to me. Pain is traced to each of them, like how the “mind keeps running off to dark corners / and coming back with reasons for / why i am not enough,” how one can feel “foreign” in one’s body, and how our tentative identities feed anxieties that “i’ll disappoint the people who are counting on me / that i’ll never learn how to be happy…” Kaur discusses them through other lenses, such as love, rest, and wakefulness. Mình biết đến cuốn sách này cũng được một thời gian rồi, hồi đó có thấy tác giả Rupi Kaur đăng thông tin trên tài khoản Instagram của cô ấy, mà giờ mình mới nhớ ra để down ebook về đọc. I believe Rupi Kaur and many other trendy, political, pseudo-intellectual group of people on the internet have this mixed up.I was hoping for different pops of color on the kitchen backsplash, on the walls, in all sorts of places in various rooms. There's not a lot of text in this book, so it's mostly just about looking at pretty pictures of interiors. While the text is informative, I'm not sure that there is enough "how to" for this to be a guide; mostly it's just a nice collection of inspirational images. Most recently in 2022- she released her 4th book ‘Healing Through Words’ which is a journey of guided writing exercises to help the reader explore their creativity.

Each offers an honest look at some key moments in her (and our) life that ultimately helped shape the woman she has become. Overall, while the information content of this book feels thin when looking at the picture to text ratio, I found it really helpful in figuring out my own tastes. With a primer on the houses (shown in architectural renderings of the front elevation) and the 'style formula,' and a reference by page number of the houses featured at the beginning of every chapter, as well as an index at the back, the reader can reference which houses illustrate which styles. It was very empty with no family photos, no mementos, and only one piece of artwork, a reproducti0n botanical print in muted shades of gray-brown. Old letters and small mementos became the invaluable pieces that I hung as art and arranged on shelves.

home body is a collection of raw, honest conversations with oneself – reminding readers to fill up on love, acceptance, community, family, and embrace change. Kaur’s interrogations of capitalism, her deeper explorations of her working-class background, her forays into black lives matter poetry, and her commentary on our culture of self-help and productivity are seeds for future books. Here is a young woman coming to terms with the complexities of romantic love, the paradoxes of being young and a woman in this society that shames women for their sexuality. In these poems, she speaks about strong topics, the type that are hard to handle, like immigration, sexual abuse, depression, anxiety, love, heartbreak, empowerment, personal growth, and many others.

A deeper vulnerability, coupled with her poems’ famous but oft-ridiculed simplicity, creates an uncomplicated, powerful final product. For each chapter (one per room), there are a few introductory pages describing an attractive design philosophy.

I love Joanna’s philosophy on design- to create a home that feels comfortable and inviting not only to guests, but most of all to the people who actually live there. It definitely made some good points and helped me gain a little perspective on what I’d like to do in my new home.
