Haig Dimple, a more expensive blend with "a heavier malt influence of whiskies from Glenkinchie and Linkwood", labelled as 15 years old, in the dimpled, three-sided bottle. This is a blended malt whisky drawn from what the distillery calls the top 1% of its casks. It is a blend of 5 single malts: Tormore, Longmorn, Allt A’Bhainne, Braevel and Strathisla. These are the same malts used in the Chivas range of blended whiskies. A blend that offers a refined, intense expression of the Chivas signature style. I would’ve recommend Glenlivet 12, my actual first dram, but that spicy finish will confuse most beginners. They’ll probably be getting used to the alcohol and the bite of the finish might be too much.

PALATE: Notes of malt and fruit. Medium body with oak, banana, pear and honey. Dimple has a few rough edges that need a few drops of water to mellow. The green notes from the nose come through, and it has a mild pepper bite. Easy drinking summer whisky. Not too complex. All five brothers went on to found their own distilleries or become partners in others. Even some of their six sisters developed a relationship with whisky: one married John Jameson (a relative of her brother Andrew’s partner at Kincardine) and moved to Dublin, where her husband founded the eponymous distilling company. The cap is a gold-coloured screw-on plastic cap. There is a paper strip seal over the top of the cap down each side extending onto the bottle itself. “Dimple” is printed on the strip both sides of the cap. Water: All three of the Speyside Distilleries use crystal clear spring water from the nearby Robbie Dhu spring. Natural spring water is ideal for producing world-class whiskey as it contains large amounts of natural minerals and high levels of purity. Haig ( / h eɪ ɡ/) is a brand of Scotch whisky, produced by Diageo in Scotland. It was originally manufactured by John Haig & Co Ltd. since the early 1720s. [1] Products [ edit ]Would this whisky be still palatable as we are not whisky drinkers and do they have any value? Your assistance is most appreciated. Peter J****** Haig Whisky Agony Uncle – The Answer Old Bottle of Haig Dimple I have had the bottle all my life. It was on a shelf behind our bar in the basement of the house I grew up in. My father gave it to me when I married. He told me to open it when my son got married & drink his health. My son does not drink so the bottle has remained unopened. I will be 73 this month. My brother was born in 1941. There is some confusion whether my father received the bottle when he got married in 1924 or when my brother was born in 1941. The seal says: Somerset Importers, Ltd. New York, N.Y. on one side & has the numbers: 36-8543363 on the other side. The IL. tax stamp has the numbers: 234751 on it. I’d be interested to know how old this bottle actually is & if it has any real value. The level of the whiskey has gone down to half way below the “&” from evaporation as it’s always been stored upright. I’m not real computer literate so pictures are not easy for me. If you think it would help, I could get my granddaughter to help me take some.

Scotch whisky also has the most character and variety. Scotch whiskies have more variety in their manufacturing processes, are aged for more than three years so the aging process can have a greater effect, and you can have two Scotch whiskies that are widely divergent in their flavor profiles. Islays and Speysides anyone? A Haig distillery, now known as the Cameronbridge distillery, was founded in 1824. [2] [9] In 1830, it became the first distillery to produce grain whisky using the column still method invented by Robert Stein in 1826 (before the later better-known refinement developed by Aeneas Coffey). Dimple Haig, or Dimple Pinch, first came to market in 1893 at a time when demand for blended Scotch whisky was expanding in all directions. The Haig family and their network of cousins dominated the industrial Lowland whisky scene and were supremely well-placed to surf the boom.

Buchanan’s blended whiskies are a great place to start if you are just building your relationship with scotch. Canadian born James Buchanan first created Buchanan’s to fill a niche for affordable entry level scotches. Notably, the brand has since become known for its strong acclaim in South America with some of its largest markets in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela. Spring Cap– The famous spring cap associated with Haig Dimple (first made in 1897) was introduced in the 1920’s. Subject: Advice on Dimple Whisky . It is approx 40 yrs old is it still palatable is it worth anything?
