Her previous books 'Bare Reality: 100 women, their breasts, their stories', 'Manhood: The Bare Reality' and 'Womanhood: The Bare Reality' attracted worldwide media coverage and excellent reviews. It’s ok for men to have feelings and share them, and it is ok for women to stand up for what they believe in when something isn’t right. I’m stealing a challenge from my friend, Dave Fuehrer: “If I can ask you to take one action, it is to admit to something that scares you. It’s because they’re seeing these exaggerated sizes in porn, where everything is larger than life to create excitement and arousal. These selected quotes (in italics and used with permission of publisher) were moments that made me think about my own experiences growing up as a boy, adolescent, and man and how we can shape the future of our sex.

While my commentary is absent, I made it a point to include them here to show that many many are aware of the dichotomy of being raised in the “traditional manhood” eras as we enter into the “transformational manhood” time. While there were a few quotes that reinforces “traditional manhood” concepts, they were shared by men who had their penises photographed a few minutes earlier and were sharing some of their deepest and darkest moments in their lives. A refreshing approach to dealing with a fairly taboo subject, with a wide variety of flaccid penises (penii? Today, I want to talk about a book that can really help parents have those important conversations about genitals with their kids. A big thank you to the author and publisher of this book for sending me a copy of this book to review.

It’s very refreshing to read in such a way, because instead of knowing who this person is, they will tell you. Manhood: The Bare Reality is a collection of 100 intimate photographs and interviews with men, and explores themes of masculinity, gender and sexuality, offering a unique insight into what it means to be a man in the 21st century.

Here, through the pictures and stories, the men and their man respective "manhoods" are celebrated as vulnerable, complex, insecure, brave, full of hopes and disappointments, the subjects of tragedy and achievement. It occurred to me as I read just how rare it is for non-erect penises to be subjected to the gaze of thousands of women and men. As I was typing this, I really had to wonder – were the interviews taped while they were still naked or did they get dressed first? Manhood: The Bare Reality by Laura Dodsworth is a book that is filled with non-sexualised colour photographs of non-erect penises that represent the diversity in size, colour and shape of this body part. The million copy bestseller, A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, is an immensely powerful and heartbreaking novel of brotherly love and. In everything I do I desire to connect deeply with people, practise integrity, and interpret and present their stories with truth and memorable images. The bestselling LGBTQ+ graphic novel about life, love, and everything that happens in between: this is the fifth volume of the Heartstopper series. He may even be able to answer my final question as I closed out the book… Should we even be asking what a man is?

So, if you have a teen with a penis, this book can be a helpful resource to let them know that bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and that having a porn star-sized penis is not the norm. Just as Bare Reality: 100 women, their breasts, their stories presented the un-airbrushed truth about breasts for women, Manhood: The Bare Reality shows us the spectrum of 'normal', revealing men's penises and bodies in all their diversity and glory, dispelling body image anxiety and myths. It’s showing that not only is this father recognizing the value of “transformational manhood,” he’s working on instilling and encouraging it in his own son. While I do get very passionate about men’s health, the truth is that men have done much of this damage to themselves by perpetuating harmful stereotypes and narratives.

Laura's interviews clearly made men feel at ease enough to disclose secrets, confront their own guilt and shame, yet feel affirmed that their manhood matters.Intimate interviews offer insight into how men navigate sex, desire, hopes and anxieties; these diverse inner lives are complemented with images that document equally diverse bodies. The same themes run through everything I do: my work is an exploration of people, our loves, our lives and our place in the world. It’s very intersesting to read about the lives and “livelihood” of various types men, and see how they view their masculinity. These days we are all less bound by gender and traditional roles, but is there more confusion about what being a man means? These themes mainly revolved around the differences between “traditional manhood” and “transformational manhood” – not terms used in the book, but I like alliteration so that’s what we’re going with.
