Because "Jenny" stands out more as a female name. Because it's all "progressive" to have the pink one be a guy. Because it's such a long-standing tradition that no more than one female be included in a genre set that everyone just automatically accepted that Lenny was a guy, even if they haven't consciously processed the reason why...yet.

I’d just recently run across that info too, but it didn’t feel like it matches what I’d read before, so I dug up the Exo-Suit interview: Among the countless licensed LEGO themes, which bring dozens and dozens unique pre-determined pieces, this tiny, simple set feels like a breath of fresh air — although, it’s almost literally a set from the 1980’s. The original Classic Space astronauts were only available in red and white, although a yellow minifigure appeared in 1979. Kenny takes inspiration from that design, featuring a yellow helmet without a broken chin strap which appears nearly identical to its predecessor. However, closer inspection reveals certain differences between them as the new element is bulkier than the older version, reducing the chance of breakage. Benny comes with a walkie talkie, and his design hasn’t really changed much from the LEGO Movie 1 version. Four astronauts are included, the first of whom is Benny. This delightful character made a tremendous impression during The LEGO Movie and I am delighted to see him return, sporting a blue helmet with a broken chin strap and matching air tanks. The worn Classic Space emblem on his torso looks excellent and the minifigure's double-sided head features two different expressions which convey a great deal of personality.I hope we learn from the movie what role Pink Classic Space minifigs play – I hope it’s something cool. Maybe Engineering? Note: Yes, I know these sets were technically released in late December 2018, but they’re still considered a 2019 set. This space toy for kids includes 4 new-for-January-2019 THE LEGO® MOVIE 2™ minifigures: Benny, Lenny, Jenny and Kenny

You know what makes an awesome day even awesomer? When you grab a friend and start dancing – then you can be AWESOME TOGETHER! Join the amazingly awesome stars of THE LEGO MOVIE 2 as they boogie their hearts out throughout all of the incredible universes you’ll explore in the movie. They’re all here: fan favorites from the original THE LEGO MOVIE™ like Emmet, Lucy, Batman™, Benny, and Unikitty™, plus all-new characters Rex Dangervest, Sweet Mayhem, Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi, Banarnar, Ice Cream Cone, and more! And when the music starts pumping, their toes start tapping – this beat is so funky that the crew take their moves across the galaxy, from the wastelands of Apocalypseburg, the strange galaxy of the Systar System, the mysterious verdant Alien Jungle, and the eternally happy place known as Harmony Town. There’s no way you can sit still watching this number – you’ll be bopping to the beat in no time, learning moves that you didn’t know your body could do. LEGO Movie 2 70841 Benny’s Space Squad feels like a set that we don’t deserve. Everything about it — its price, number of minifigures, its concept and designs — looks and sounds like something that cannot exist among modern LEGO themes and series. The set is what LEGO looked like 40 years ago — and it still works perfectly fine today. And, no doubt, the set will be praised by many toy photographers who are in love with not only LEGO minifigures, but also LEGO Classic Space characters. This tiny set has so many things to love about it that it simply leaves absolutely no space for any criticism. In many of the new LEGO Movie 2 sets, Benny is sporting some sort of robotic arm, but he looks pretty intact in this version. The price. Despite the low piece count, the minifigure collection alone sells this set. The extra builds are a bonus. This space toy for kids includes 4 new-for-January-2019 THE LEGO MOVIE 2 minifigures: Benny, Lenny, Jenny and Kenny. As we move further through the instruction booklet, the builds start to get a little more complex (though this is an exceptionally easy build). Our second retro build is a lunar buggy with the kind of the design you, yourself would have come up with if you’re a kid of the 80s. Not a complaint in anyway shape or form, it’s a wonderful homage to the hours I spent as a child building small-wheeled space buggy’s. The second build is another familiar sight for fans of Classic Space – a simple two-seater Lunar Buggy. Features a THE LEGO® MOVIE 2™ spaceship toy with a minifigure seat and a lunar buggy with 2 minifigure seats. See above for a comparison of an original Classic Space blue minifigure in very good condition, one that has lots of wear on it (notice the white moon), Benny from The LEGO Movie 1 and lastly, Benny from The LEGO Movie 2.

Robots are a perennial feature of Classic Space sets and this example looks familiar as it also appeared in 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship SPACESHIP! It is not based directly upon a classic design but resembles that from 6891 Gamma V Laser Craft which also stands on a 2x2 dish and features a camera piece at its centre. However, this character consists of light bluish grey, blue and trans-yellow elements, matching the colours of Classic Space vehicles rather than the robots which were more often monochromatic.Features a THE LEGO MOVIE 2 spaceship toy with a minifigure seat and a lunar buggy with 2 minifigure seats.
