Guillermo del Toro does solid work keeping the conversation flowing with the director and getting into what makes Phil Tippett tick. The small group began volunteering their weekends to MAD GOD , and before long it had snowballed into a crew of more than 60 artists.

The tone is set with the pre-credits opening scroll quoting a passage from Leviticus of God’s threats to humanity if they disobey his words, which include “ I will make the land desolate so that your enemies who settle it shall be appalled by it. For example, early on there is a moment where stick-figure-like humanoids are born then sent to fall into a sort of hellfire. There’s a brief feature focusing on the students with the Academy of Art University and how some of the pupils came aboard Mad God . It’s a brief but open and honest feature that helped me understand who could create a film like Mad God . It's a film that took three decades to complete and, one assumes, probably brought its creator to the brink of madness on more than one occasion (three decades, people).
