Find out what he does on the moon: cleaning and tidying, welcoming vistors, performing tricks for tourists and much more. With its bold, quirky illustrations and charming story of a lunar caretaker, Simon Bartram’s Man on the Moon series has become a modern picture book classic. The dazzling, Norman Rockwell- like, lush coloured images, the dazzling shapes and tongue- in-cheek text add up to a superb picture book.

My son whole heartedly loves proving Bob wrong and pointing out all the illustrations on each page, laughing in delight when he sees a 'cheeky alien' hiding from Bob.The text and the pictures are well connected supporting each other, however they have their own life too: the story can be read without looking at any of the pictures, and as the book is richly illustrated it is very easy to make up your own storyline without reading. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! The pictures had some striking beauty with their painting like character and they had real humour too and the story seemed OK. Bob’s daily routine is described in a matter of fact tone, and his disbelief in aliens is frequently referred to.

Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned. Bartram salutes William Joyce with his baroque images of a retro-futuristic everyday world and a smiley-face full moon, as well as his lucid palette of lawn green, clear blue and scarlet. This book was shortlisted for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Award (2003) and won the Blue Peter Book of the Year (2004) and it is very easy to see why.

When the Stupdendous Alacazamo finishes his magic show by making the moon disappear, it looks like Bob might be out of a. He has also written a popular series of illustrated fiction books about the adventures of Bob and his dog Barry. But the double page spread in the centre is a BIT MUCH for 3 year olds and because of this, The Man on the Moon cannot be in the bedroom at night-time. Man on the Moon: A Day in the Life of Bob (newly re-issued by Templar) is a truly wonderful piece of art and story alike.

Since then, it's been a hilarious staple of night time reading, day time reading, Daddy reading to himself, and just general conversation between our children and ourselves. Simon Bartram (author and illustrator) fully engages an audience of any age, you will never tire of reading this story.Tonight, we bring our space-themed celebration of the Apollo 11 moon landings to an end with a glimpse into a potential future for the moon – Man on the Moon (a day in the life of Bob) by Simon Bartram. I've managed to get two weeks worth of work out of this one book alone and barely scratched the surface! You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods.

He knows almost everything there is to know about the moon, and he's absolutely sure that there's no such thing as aliens. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything.Personally, I loved the adult humour - the fact it only takes Bob 15 minutes to get to work on the Moon - and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this to my children; it has become a firm favourite at bedtime. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. This excellent picture book has enough depth to captivate pupils and is an entertaining storytime choice for Year 1 and 2. However, the detailed, period pictures, tell a different story and readers will soon spot the little green men lurking in the background.
