Choosing the right newborn car seat for your family is an important decision. After all, you want your baby to be safe and comfortable in your car from the moment you first take them home from the hospital! Here’s more about what you need to knowwhen choosing a baby car seat:

R44 groups 0+ (birth to 13 kg), 1 (9 to 18 kg), or 2/3 (15 to 36 kg) are based on your child’s weight, not height and are suitable for children from birth up to 12 years old. In accordance with the law, your baby must travel rearward-facing for at least 9 months. However, R44/04 products are going to be phased out in the future and i-Size will become the standard for car seats. Read more about ECE R44. Removing an ISOFIX base varies depending on which base you have, but it usually involves pressing a button and disconnecting the base from the ISOFIX anchorage points. The base's user manual will usually contain a section that guides you through the installation and removal process so you can ensure you complete these steps safely and correctly. Why choose an ISOFIX? There are two ways in which you can install your newborn car seat: with an ISOFIX base or with your car’s seatbelt. At Maxi-Cosi, we always recommend using an ISOFIX base to install your baby car seat. It minimises the risk of incorrect installation and provides a solid connection to your car. Don’t worry if you don’t have ISOFIX anchors in your car, installation with a belt is just as safe if you follow the instructions included in the manual.

North & South America

The best place to fit your newborn car seat is the rear middle seat of your car. The next best place to install your newborn car seat/infant carrier is behind the passenger; this can be done if the middle seat doesn’t have ISOFIX anchors or a three-point seat belt for fixing the car seat in place. We don’t recommend it, but if you need to install the baby car seat in the front passenger seat, be sure to always deactivate the passenger airbag before doing so. You may notice that there are a few Maxi Cosi ISOFIX bases that we haven't mentioned here, such as the 3WayFix and the Babyfix. This is because these bases have been phased out by Maxi Cosi and replaced with newer models.

These days, more and more European cars have the ISOFIX system, so there is a good chance that yours will have it too. Our Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix3 easily attaches to your car’s ISOFIX anchor points. Follow the steps in our user manual for it to be correctly installed into your car. Of course, time will fly and there will be the moment when your little one will outgrow their first car seat. Then, you can still continue using our FamilyFix2 as it also fits Pearl Smart i-Size and Pearl Pro² i-Size toddler car seats, which can be used up to 4 years.
