The Clarks' eureka story began almost 2 centuries ago by making rugs from sheepskins. The brothers used to make slippers out of the offcuts. Clarks have more than 1400 franchises and branded stores worldwide and also sells through third-party. The Clarks brothers continued to develop great shoe designs and win different design awards in the Great Exhibition. The real innovation came in 1873 when William Clark (James Clark's son) established C. & J. Clarks as a new technology pioneer and footwear innovation champion through mechanising the shoemaking process – wanted to speed up the production process by investing in a singer sewing machine.
