Description

A consistent grind is the first step to a brilliant cup of coffee. This is a fact that Wilfa knows well! Hence they've produced unrivalled coffee grinders. The power cord is relatively short at only 24 inches, so keep that in mind (or buy an extension cord) when considering where the Wilfa Uniform grinder will fit in your kitchen. Durability – 5/5 Of course! In fact, the Fellow Ode Gen 2 is ideal for a whole range of filter methods - from the finest pour-overs to coarse French Press and cupping. In total, it boasts 31 steps to choose from, so you can really focus on dilling in each new coffee. Plus, it's quiet. The Ode Gen 2 was designed with quietness in mind, so your brewing ritual can be properly peaceful. Wilfa trusts the Uniform is well-made because they offer a best-in-class 5-year warranty. While it doesn’t cover things like normal wear and tear, misuse, or poor maintenance, it does protect you from any manufacturing defects. Ease of Use – 4/5 In daily use, it’s not as big a deal as you might think, as you’d usually spend time rinsing the filter and preheating in the meantime. Also, since the grinder has an automatic shut-off function when there are no beans left in the hopper, you don’t have to hang around waiting. It’s not like the ‘microwave minute.’

When it comes to output quality, the Wilfa Uniform is the clear winner for us in terms of cup quality and clarity. It is a noticeable cup difference for siphon, pour over, and press pot. It just seems to grind more uniform and less clumpy than the Vario+, all of which translates to a better cup of coffee. The Wilfa Uniform + is a 58mm flat burr grinder designed for home use. Most coffee grinders at this price point use conical burrs. While these are great and more affordable to produce they tend to produce a less even particle distribution. Sitting on the counter, the Wilfa Uniform looks awesome and unique. We had a large dinner party over for Christmas, and everyone wanted to know what it was. It’s definitely Scandinavian modern with a nod towards Steve Jobs simplicity. That grinder is the Wilfa Uniform. It’s been out in Europe for several years now, and it’s almost universally loved (including the Hoff). Meanwhile, us poor slobs living on 110V power systems have been eyeing it with a certain amount of coffee gear lust. One of the killer features of this grinder is the auto off function. Because it’s a single dose grinder, it has a resistance sensor built in that knows when it is no longer grinding coffee: this triggers a stop to the motor within a few seconds. Every single dose grinder should have this feature. Most do not. The Wilfa Uniform does.

In addition to outstanding grind quality the Wilfa Uniform grinder is made of stainless steel and the build quality is a big step up from the more affordable Wilfa Svart grinder. Although this grinder is designed mainly with filter coffee in mind the burrs are able to grind fine enough for espresso-making this an excellent all-round grinder. If you mainly grind for espresso we would still recommend a dedicated home espresso grinder like the Baratza Sette 270. You might struggle a bit more to accommodate its height. While it has a relatively small footprint, measuring just 19.4 cm in diameter, it is a towering 39.6 cm tall. It fits under upper cupboards but doesn’t leave much room to spare to get the lid on and off and add beans to the hopper. And this is a single-dosing grinder, so adding beans to the hopper is something you’ll be doing regularly. Even though this model is equipped with a set of 58 mm flat steel burrs it is designed specifically with manual brewing in mind, rather than espresso. This is rather uncommon in the world of home coffee grinders where smaller (and often cheaper) conical burrs are the standard for brew grinders.

Is the Ode Gen 2 Worth It?

A consistent grind is the first step to a brilliant cup of coffee. This is a fact that Wilfa knows well! Yet again, they’ve produced an unrivalled coffee grinder, this time with the help of world-renowned barista Tim Wendelboe. Wilfa Uniform is an automatic coffee grinder developed in collaboration with Tim Wendelboe – the 2004 World Barista Champion, 2005 World Cup Tasting Champion, and multiple Nordic Roaster of the year. The device is dedicated for home use, perfect for the beginners, as well as for experienced coffee enthusiasts. This grinder was made to make you enjoy possibly the best coffee every day! Among its advantages, one can name wide grinding setting (recommended especially for pour-over methods, however, works also for espresso), built-in scale, and precise flat burrs

Step six was the only option from there, and the shot Reyna pulled poured too fast, meaning it was under-extracted, at which point Espresso testing was complete. Also, comparing handgrinders and eletric grinders is a bit of an apples/oranges discussion, since they are quite different in terms of daily user experience.

Grinder Comparison – Ode Vs Wilfa Uniform:

In Bean Bros' selection, you can find the much-loved Wilfa Svart and Uniform coffee grinders and Svart Precision and Performance coffee makers. They are all developed in collaboration with world champion barista Tim Wendelboe with the main focus on developing products that give you a chance to have the perfect coffee at home. Wilfa also provides beautiful, high-quality electric kettles, perfect for pour-over coffee and tea making. The problems with the Fellow Ode are a) grind retention, b) static issues, b) bean feeding, and d) an inability to grind fine enough for most finer-grind applications. I’ve tested and seen this first hand.

However, if you own the likes of a Helor 101 or Comandante (and don’t mind using your biceps) it makes less sense to upgrade.Wilfa's Uniform Scales are reliable and accurate – just what you need when you're cooking up a storm in the kitchen! What did Tim Wendelboe have to say after he tried the grinder? Exactly this - ‘The Svart Uniform coffee grinder has unique, wide and flat burrs made from high-quality steel that grind the beans slowly and precisely, getting a high quality and uniform end result. You’ll get tasty, aromatic and full-bodied coffee.’
