Description

Given that Man United and Barcelona have fan bases that go way beyond their local areas I can see why they have done them.

The next step puts the roof coverings on. There’s some clever tilework on the roof that does a good gapless job of approximating the curve of the glass wall below it. The roof overhanging the seating is braced with lightsaber hilts and blades in light grey, a detail that set designer Rok Zgalin Kobe calls out in the instruction books as a favorite touch. Putting the two stand sections together with the playing field gives you an idea of how things are progressing. This “half-shell” amphitheater would almost work as a smaller display option, except for the exposed scaffolding under the seats. It wouldn’t be super difficult to custom build a “cover” for the sides if you wanted to, though. As a display piece based on such an imposing and iconic real-world stadium, how it sits on display is crucial to its appeal, and in every way 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona impresses. It’s one of those LEGO sets that your eyes just glaze over as you take it in, and that highlights a different detail each time you look closer – it’s one to enjoy on display for a long time, if you can find the shelf space. FC Barcelona and the LEGO Group announce the new LEGO® Camp Nou – FC Barcelona set, a detailed tribute to the iconic stadium. Fans can now build the Camp Nou stadium in all its historic glory, creating a spectacular 5,509-piece model that is sure to take centre stage in any supporter’s home Messi has recently left his longstanding club, thus dropping the allure of buying this particular set (for some). The new LEGO FC Barcelona Camp Nou set allows you to create a spectacular 5,509-piece model that is sure to take centre stage in any fan’s home. Another issue with this set is that Barcelona actually plan to expand the stadium soon... So for how long will this set remain accurate (if accurate is what you can even call it in this state...) The slogan on the bleachers reads “Més que un club,” which translates from the Catalan as “More than a club.”

That being said, 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona benefits where 10276 Colosseum could not by offering so much more colour across the build and various other little details and variations. The repetitive segments are there to create the nucleus of the set, but there’s great fun in what you build around it, whilst the end result comes together so remarkably well that even if you were a little bored putting it together, you’ll more than forgive what’s in front of you. First off, let me state for the record that I’m not much of a sports fan, so I don’t have a lot of personal context for this set. I’ve looked over the required Wikipedia reading, but there might still be some athletics-related perspectives that I’ve missed or misstatements that will seem very silly to those in the know. Hopefully, you’re here to look at this set from a LEGO perspective, though – and that I’m sure I can provide. Camp Nou is a stadium that has borne witness to some of club football’s most revered and decorated teams, and celebrated some of the game’s most gifted stars. Written into its history are names like Johan Cruyff, who brought a Dutch footballing philosophy to Barcelona that is still followed to this day; any number of foreign greats like Diego Maradona, Hristo Stoichkov, Michael Laudrup, Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho; and, held with such pride, youth team graduates from La Masia who among others include Pep Guardiola, Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi. For now, 10284 Camp Nou’s very existence – and any and all details surrounding it – are simply a rumour, so don’t put too much faith in them. At least until the LEGO Group confirms otherwise… One of the final details to be added is some flex tubing along the top edge. Surprisingly it’s not just decorative, but also functional. The edge of tubing that overlaps the stadium roof actually holds the white panel down flush with the wall.I think like Old Trafford this set is aimed at getting football fans into Lego rather than the other way around, so I can understand why there are so many negative poll responses. The first steps build the playing field. There’s nothing too exciting about this, but I was surprised the designers didn’t have this section be the final part of the build. It feels like it would be a pretty fun capstone to the building experience, particularly as things get really dull in the main build. But more on that later. For right now, just enjoy a modular section that you could easily repurpose as the center of another custom stadium build. I don't get it LEGO! Many other more intriguing structures you could find to present in the LEGO form either in the 18+(Creator Expert line) or Architecture theme. Wow -- that's quite an overwhelming majority of negative poll responses! 62% have no interest, 19% don't like it. Just 8% plan on buying it." Designed by someone who's never actually seen Camp Nou? The colours are just so wrong! Mind you, a closer match to reality would have made for a *really* dull display piece. There are so many other stadia, and not just in football, that offer far more visual impact.

That’s not to say that 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona is a carbon copy of 10272 Old Trafford – Manchester United. There’s a base template and set of construction rules that both stadiums (and presumably any more that may come) follow that provides the framework that the more expressive and individualistic elements of the respective stadiums are then built around. 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona may remind you in places of 10272 Old Trafford – Manchester United, but it’s also very much its own beast of a 5,509-piece LEGO set. (More on that later.)The Camp Nou is one of the symbols of FC Barcelona. We are therefore very proud to get the opportunity to jointly create this reproduction of the stadium with the LEGO Group that fans will be able to build from bottom to top and which represents the home of all Culers”. Statement by Rok Zgalin Kobe, designer of the LEGO Camp Nou: You don’t have to be a Barcelona fan to enjoy 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona. Nor even a football fanatic. You don’t need to have an intricate knowledge of the club’s history, its connection to its local community or an understanding of its wildly out-of-control finances to be able to take in a lot of what 10284 FC Barcelona Camp Nou rewards as a LEGO experience.
