The first time Chewits were ever found on the market under this particular name was in 1965. Prior to that time, this fun candy was named Chewzits. The original introduction of Chewzits happened in 1963, so the name only lasted a couple of years before the transition occurred.

Carole Wright said: “I worked there for five years. The job was awful. Very boring. But the people I worked with - well that’s a different matter. The social life was fantastic. Lollipops are one of the most popular types of hard candies that appeal to sweet tooths of all ages. Whether you add them to a sweet table or pop them into a party bag, any of the green Chupa Chups lollipops are sure to go down a treat. The same goes for the options numerous flavours from Dobson’s – which include Watermelon, Apple and Tropical Fruit. I was on fizzy Chewits and the highlight was getting M&S double Devon rejects from the factory shop.” Chewits’ extremely fruity flavours and chewy chews is what makes them stand out against other chews on the market. And during their whole existence, they have been a perennial favourite of both children and adults. But now this range has expanded to Sour Cherry and Sour Lemon flavoured Chews, as well as Sour Apple & Lemon Juicy Bites. Now that’s something to sink your teeth into. Retro Chewits Get Re-Branded However, they have officially been discontinued again due to the roaring popularity of the other flavours. And now, thinking about it brings nostalgia but also disappointment that we can’t have it again. Quite a lot of the sweets we enjoyed during our childhood have since been discontinued.

Legend has it that you are only ever a stone’s throw away from a fan of sour sweets. And if you’re looking for some to fit in with your green theme, then it’s safe to say that there are plenty of green sour sweets here at Wholesale Sweets. Across from Mullards, on Rufford Road, there was an engineering company called Bankfield, my dad worked there years ago. He also worked on the old pier train, the Silver Bell. I will ask him if he worked on the manufacture of aeroplanes in Southport. He, my mum and sister emigrated to Canada, where he worked in plane manufacture with De Havilland in Toronto. He worked in different aspects of sheet metal work all his working life.” In fact, Chewits has a few of their own chewy treats to get nostalgic over. So as we reminisce over what was, we’re bringing you with us. Time to remind you about some of our retro sweets that haven’t quite made it with us into the present day. Who knows, one of them might have even been your favourite! Retro Chewits Products Along with Ice Cream Chewits came the introduction of other newer flavours, Cola, Rhubarb & Custard, and Blue Mint. Originally launched as limited edition flavours, Cola became an ever-popular Chewits choice so it’s been in our range ever since.
