Come Rain or Shine’ opens with a piano flourish so alive one almost doesn’t care whether the main melody ever arrives. So savor it and savor this indelible 2cd (3lp) set of Evans' intimate magic brought to us by the the intrepid investigative team of master jazz sleuth, Zev Feldman. There’s a lot of music too, with plenty of variety: two hours and 18 minutes comprising one solo set, four pure trio performances with varying bassists and drummers, and a trio augmented by a symphony orchestra and big band. I'm going to give it another chance - just compared to some of the other jazz RSD releases, this one was one of the most expensive and the least rewarding.

Treasures' is a set of never-before-released live recordings by jazz piano icon Bill Evans in solo, trio and orchestral performances from the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and Danish television and radio broadcasts from the mid-to-late 1960s, deluxe 2CD set. When you pair Evans’ endlessly listenable style with a seemingly bottomless well of recorded gigs, you get a reissue cottage industry boosted further by the vinyl revival. It runs counter to some recent Evans reissues by featuring an array of instrumental configurations, and it’s a strong showcase of how he adapted his playing to reflect the settings. Someday My Prince Will Come’ states the melody, then takes off into the eddies and streams that emanate from it. Evans’ left hand takes a similar approach to ‘Re: Person I Knew’, doubling as a rhythmic and progressively harmonic device. The pieces for orchestra were arranged by trumpeter and composer Palle Mikkelborg and recorded in 1969, and included Evans compositions along with this album’s title track, written explicitly for the performance.
