Note: Do not create a film. Textrol HES is not a surface coating, its place is in the wood not on the surface. Maintenance Textrol may only be applied to bare wood surfaces or a weathered wood surface that was previously finished with Textrol. All previous coating must be completely and thoroughly removed with a stripper and neutralized with Net-Trol before applying Textrol. If necessary sand the surface after cleaning and stripping (80 grit paper). After cleaning, allow the wood to dry for 2-3 days before finishing. Application of Textrol penetrating wood oil Maintenance applications may be required approximately once every 2 years depending on wood species, age of wood at time of initial application e.g. new or weathered and colour used.

Clean all tools and equipment with white sprits whilst still wet. If allowed to dry, remove with paint stripper. To apply Textrol to weathered wood first ensure the wood is fully dry (preferably allow 2-3 completely dry days after cleaning) although we know this can be difficult to guarantee with the British weather! You can use a brush, roller or garden sprayer to apply the Textrol and you should apply an initial coat and allow 15-30 minutes for it to be absorbed into the wood. The important thing to remember about Textrol is that it should be applied wet-on-wet which means that you should not allow the surface of the wood to dry between coats. This is because Textrol’s place is in the wood and not on top – if you allow it to dry then the Textrol which has been absorbed will prevent the new coat form penetrating the wood! A small trellis added to the top of an existing fence and provide a deterrent for trespassers and burglars as they will not hold the weight of a person and so would collapse – causing noise and damage Textrol HES can only be applied to bare wood surfaces or weathered surfaces previously finished with Textrol HES. New wood surfaces When first applied, Textrol will give the wood a rich, matt colour which will gradually lighten over time to the finished look. It is now available in 4 different colours for a range of looks all with premium protection. Why should I use Textrol?Before starting, test the colour choice on a small area. Allow to dry to determine final colour (remember that this colour will lighten over a couple of months to the final colour). After cleaning and/or stripping, allow the wood to dry for 2-3 good drying days or until it has reached a moisture content of 18% or less before applying the finish.

Application of Textrol is quite simple really but assuming you have followed our advice of treating first with Seasonite and leaving the wood to weather for a year we would always recommend cleaning your wood and restoring it’s colour with Net-Trol first for the best results. Once your surface is prepared, the application process is much the same as Textrol. Begin applying the D1 with a brush or roller (please note a sprayer is only suitable for maintenance coats and not for initial application in this case) and be sure to work in sections which you can complete in around 15 minutes (for fences this is relatively easy as you can just work in individual panels or 2 or 3 panel sections depending on your application speed – always work in whole panels though). As with Textrol, continue to apply wet-on-wet applications of Deks Olje D1 until the wood is saturated and ensure that it does not dry out inbetween coats.Textrol HES has a luxurious matt-sheen finish which enhances the grain and natural beauty of the wood. As it is penetrative and its place is not on the surface it will not peel or flake as it doesn’t form a film. Why use Textrol HES? In the previous two posts in our fencing series we discussed both choosing the right fence posts and how to set them correctly for your fence panels. In this next part we will be discussing the different types of fence panels and why they might be right or wrong for you. Treat new wood with Owatrol Seasonite and allow to weather for 12 months. Weathered Wood (Wood exposed to weathering for longer than 12 months) should be treated with Net-trol Wood Cleaner & Colour Restorer, following instructions on the container.
