Maintenance Dose: Add 25ml of Fountain Clear every week from March to September and every two weeks at other times. Regular use will prevent re-contamination.

A nice clear water feature or garden fountain will start getting problems with biofilms within a couple of weeks from installation. Both of these can be applied with a toothbrush so that you can get down to the deepest parts of the pump without issue. You can also use pipe cleaners. Refill With Distilled WaterEqually effective in hard water, once diluted, this product is non-toxic and safe for animals and birds; however, do not use if fish are present. Next, we need to get rid of the remaining excess. Some of the most common methods of dirt/algae removal include the use of: A water fountain is a glorious addition to any garden. The subtle sound of flowing water can provide a sense of calm and tranquillity. The birds chirping as they bathe brings a deeper connection with nature. And the blossoming plants, critters and amphibians provide a self-sustaining ecosystem for a variety of nature and wildlife.

You can pull out these things by hand, but if there seems to be an obstruction deep inside, it might be best to use a homemade solution to clean it. This will remove any unreachable obstructions and clear the way for proper water circulation. The best kind of water to use in your fountain is distilled. This works best because it’s pure water. The pump has an easier time pushing it through, so it will last longer and keep your water cleaner for a more significant amount of time. This small precautionary step goes a long way, helping prolong the life of the water pump. It’s important in the general upkeep of your centerpiece. Replace Your Pump Existing Features: Empty feature and remove any dirt or algae by scrubbing with a solution of hot water, detergent and 25ml of Fountain Clear. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dose as above. For features containing over 100 litres (22 gall) of water, use 50ml each time. As well as unsightly algae contamination, water can contain other harmful organisms. Hydra F ountain Clear - water feature treatment will reduce microbes by 99.9% in less than 3 hours, such as: Escherichia coli, Streptococcus agalactiae, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Legionella pneumophila (responsible for Legionnaires Disease). ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY FOUNTAIN CLEANERFountains and water features are often fed by tap water which contains excess nutrients such as phosphates. Even when utilising rainwater, airborne nutrients soon start to pollute this water. Animals and birds using this water add their pollutants to the mix. CLEAN FOUNTAIN Remember to rinse down and remove any residue left on the surface of the fountain with a garden hose and a pair of old, clean bath towels before refilling. Learn to Clean and Replace Pump Filters You can use a cover, either made specifically for fountains or fashioned from a tarp, to keep unwanted items out of your fountain at night or in bad weather. Simply wrap it around your centerpiece tightly and remove it in the morning to minimize disturbance.

Water pumps often become clogged with dirt, leaves, and other natural debris that come with the outdoor location. This leads to poor water circulation, in turn causing the liquid to turn a lovely shade of brownish-green. You can also scrub any extra decorative items clean with a sponge, making sure that they don’t have any invasive algae or dirt that may damage your progress. Use at 1:30,000 (1 ml per 30 litres) to protect clean water from algae and green water (single-cell algae) contamination. Treat weekly-monthly depending on local conditions. If your fountain doesn’t have any water plants, you can always add a small amount of chlorine to your fountain. We’d only recommend using one to two tablespoons, every two to three weeks during summer and the warmer spring weeks of the year. Ensure your pump is turned off when adding the chlorine. Once you’ve completed this step, you should be able to see the grit and grime leftover in the base. We’ll look into the removal of this in the next step. Scrub the Fountain CleanWhile it’s crucial to keep your pump clean, it’s also just as important to replace it. Typical pumps last three to five years. Repeat the Process By using this tool, you can slow the growth of the inevitable green and keep your fountain crystal clear for longer. Use A Cover

Once the fountain is full, you should once again have a clear and glistening centerpiece. However, without proper care, the water will become dirty again. There are also some additional preventative measures you can take. Algae and Dirt PreventativesKeep water crystal clear with this All-Natural water feature treatment. Safe to use around fish, birds, pets & plant life, this water clarifier is produced from natural ingredients for use in all types of water features to help keep water crystal clear and free from surface staining.
