Description

The Cessna 414 is an incredibly popular pressurized cabin-class twin, with almost 650 registered in the US alone. Therefore, finding parts to support the aircraft is not difficult. Preferred Airparts, based in Ohio, provide worldwide customers with surplus new Cessna original components and used parts from dismantled aircraft.

Welcome to Flysimware’s C414AW Chancellor for Microsoft Flight simulator. Flysimware has modeled this vintage aircraft using every feature the new sim offers giving you the user the best experience for a realistic simulation. From a interactive copilot, highly accurate gauges to realistic flight dynamics. It features a high-quality switching system with LED indicators to alert you which polar pattern is on. Cessna 414. (n.d.). AOPA. Retrieved October 5, 2021, from https://www.aopa.org/go-fly/aircraft-and-ownership/aircraft-fact-sheets/cessna-414 The mic also features a bass-cut filter and provide you with any overall warnings even on the slightest of applications.

The easiest way to examine the range is to look from the top down. The C414 XLII and XLS variants are the flagship mics in the range and feature the distinctive 414 shape, grille, and switch positions. The latest version of the mic was split into two models, the XL S and XLII which are easily identified by the colour of their grille as the latter XLII featur es a Gold grille . The first Cessna Chancellor – the 414 – took to the skies in 1968, and was produced from 1970 onwards. It was developed to bridge the gap between the unpressurized Cessna 401 and the pressurized, more powerful Cessna 421. The 414 was meant to attract customers looking to upgrade from their unpressurized twin-engined aircraft and did so with limited success. Over its production run the number of 414s and 414As were evenly split, with 516 and 554 built, respectively. However, almost all owners complain about the maintenance, and most say that the low acquisition cost of the aircraft will be offset by the cost of maintenance a few years down the line. The number of maintenance problems that can and do arise can cost a lot of money in a short time frame. One former owner even stated that anyone who says the aircraft is reliable is delusional.

Purchasing a Cessna 414A is considered to be cheap for the number of airplanes you get. It is capable, comfortable, and performs well. The 414A has a single-engine ceiling of 19,850 ft (6,050 m) which is the best among all its peers. However, single-engine performance at sea level is lower than the competition, with the aircraft only being able to climb 290 ft (88 m) per minute. An examination of the frequency response of the mic shows it to be nominally flat up to 2kHz, above which there is a slight ripple, followed by a presence peak of around 3dB at 7kHz. The response rolls off slowly above 10kHz and below 100Hz and there is very little difference in the response curves between the cardioid and hypercardioid settings. A useful frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz is quoted in the specifications. A direct competitor of the 414A is the Beechcraft King Air. The Piper Seneca is also quite similar to the 414A, even though it is slightly smaller. Cessna Chancellor (414A) Clubs You can Join I suspect many will be hoping that the C314 is a low–cost version of the reference C414 XLS, but I’m afraid I have to say no, it’s not! First and foremost, it doesn’t match that model’s impressively flat and neutral frequency response, which is fundamentally what allows the C414 to serve as such a good all–rounder in the studio. Instead the C314 has that distinct HF lift and upper–mid bloom character in most of its polar pattern modes. That’s not to say the C314 is a bad mic at all — it performs very well indeed — but it does have a sound character that isn’t present in the C414 XLS. What this means in practice is that the C314 will tend to complement and enhance some sources very nicely, but grate and clash sonically with others — but to be fair this feature is familiar to most large–diaphragm microphones.

The C414 is probably the best-known microphone that AKG make, alongside the legendary C12. Nevertheless, the C414 has undergone a number of evolutionary changes over its long lifetime, changing shape, adding and discarding transformers, and now, in its latest incarnation, sprouting LEDs! Although the overall shape of the new versions is unmistakably C414, virtually everything about the microphone has been redesigned in an effort to retain the original sound, while at the same time improving the technical performance. AKG cite 15 improved features, though one of these relates to the depth of engraving and the colour of the infill, so clearly some are of more importance than others! Two Of A Kind Cox, B. B. C. (2015, July 13). 414 chancellor. Cessna Owner Organization. https://cessnaowner.org/414-chancellor/ The aircraft has a remarkably high service ceiling of 30,800 ft (9387 m), but the normal operating range of a 414A is between 15,000 ft (4572 m) and FL250 (7,620 m). The fuel economy of the 414A depends on the altitude, conditions, and power setting, but the general specific fuel consumption is approximately 0.44 lbs/hp/hr. The ‘Polar Pattern Available’ column on the above table is the biggest giveaway as to what makes these mics special. T hat’s not a typo, they genuinely have 9 Polar patterns. Assigned using the front panel switch, each of the 5 major positions has a middle and intermediary step for modified versions of the popular polar patterns including S upercardiod that sits between Cardioid and Hypercardioid a s well as W ide C ardioid that sits between S upercardioid and O mni patterns.

The sE2300 is the multi-pattern sibling of the hugely popular sE2200, famously adopted by vocal powerhouses such as Amy Winehouse. This smooth-sounding microphone builds upon its predecessor by adding an optimised signal path that delivers even lower noise and increased clarity. The frequency response plots for each polar pattern all show a characteristic presence peak centred around 10kHz (slightly lower for the figure–of-eight mode), and a dip around 2kHz. Both the peak and dip vary in amplitude with the different patterns, amounting to roughly a 5dB boost and 2dB dip for the cardioid and super–cardioid modes. The figure-of-eight mode has a deeper 5dB dip, while the omni mode more–or–less loses the dip but has a narrower presence peak.
