If you’re going on a longer backpacking trip or have several trips in the pipeline over the next few years, spending a little more on your backpack is possibly worth the additional cost. Travellers are generally on a tight budget, so may overlook the Fairview and opt for one of our mid-range backpacks.

You did mention that the Farpoint/Fairview 40 is a size more suited for summer in Eu or trips in Asia.It used to be that the Farpoint 55 wasn’t carry-on compliant and it had some other points against it that made it a less attractive option, but now they are much more of a match. LD Mountain Centre does not accept responsibility for items being delayed through customs/ security checks or adverse weather conditions. A PFC/PFA free water repellent coating adds additional travel protection from dirt and incidental showers but I would always recommend getting a rain cover if you are planning on trekking in bad weather. The easy access pocket, which sits on the face of the small pack furthest from your body, is great for things you'll need on the go like a wallet, but only if you are in a place which you feel secure, as the pocket is an easy spot for thieves to get into without you noticing.

I suspect the Fairview 40 that I purchased the other day is the older model (in that misty green/gray color with cyan buckles), and I don’t think it has the front shoulder straps to attach the Daypack I brought separately. Osprey have included a protective zip panel to cover the backpack harness during flights, and as both the Fairview 55 and 70 are too big to use as carry-on luggage I would strongly recommend using the cover when you check your bag in at the airport to prevent damage to the straps. After testing the Farpoint 70 on the road for 5 months, we can safely say that the series can take anything you can throw at them!The Farpoint is one of the most popular travel backpacks out there, so a female version was a great move by Osprey. If your backpack’s hip belt isn’t strong and supportive enough to take the main weight of the bag’s load, it’s essentially useless.
