Fitted on top of the dial and to the case is a flat Hardlex crystal. This is a rather thin crystal. Hardlex is Seiko’s proprietary hardened mineral. From the beginning Seiko watches were well-made, and considered good quality pieces, but they didn't stand out in store displays as much as their Swiss competitors – at least in places where the Japanese timepieces were available. Printed on the dial are markings that have been broken into two rings. The outer ring of the dial indicates minutes and the inner dial indicates hours. Grand Seiko is not a single piece or watch model; rather, it is a product line that can feature Zaratsu polishing, textured dials, Spring Drive movements, and an outrageously high level of craftsmanship. The brushing atop these is replicated on the hands, which otherwise mimic those present on the SNZG in size and profile.

Buyers should look for NATO, canvas, perlon, or plain leather straps that go with the dial color you’ve chosen. Stay away from crocodile, stingray, and other exotic or expensive leathers as the watch is too casual.Despite the price, the minute and hour hands are also filled with Lumibright to improve legibility in low light conditions. Similarly, the yellow on the bezel insert has a metallic shine that changes in tone with the light. The hour hand in red was a great touch, and helps maintain the warm, playful feeling of the watch. Fair Prices

The watch isn’t that big. Its case stretches 1.45 inches (37 mm)across. Weight-wise, it’s heavier than its counterpart. Unlike many aftermarket companies, the parts we sell are at least as good as Seiko OEM parts, and in the case of our dials, many exceed the craftsmanship of entry level Seiko models. To begin with, the design of the watch is spot on. It has been in production for a long time, and it is easy to see why Seiko has not felt the need of discontinuing the model. Why change a winning concept, right?
