A sort of Agatha Christie mystery with the usual secrets and lies that make a good whodunit. Just didn’t make it as a brilliant thriller (for me). I enjoyed reading it but felt it was all a bit predictable, even the ending. It’s clear something happened when they lived in London but it’s not until later in the book that we find out what this was. What we are never told, is that Rwanda’s incursion into Congo, came about as a direct result of France’s now much chronicled support of the genocidal government of Juvenal Habyarimana. I should be surprised anymore. This guy is the most consistent author out there and my personal favorite at this point. Never a dull book.

Central to everything produced by Wrong, and others of similar bent of mind about Rwanda, is the theme of the ‘Untold Story’. What follows is a graphic blood bath, one room after the other at the roadside hotel, some of which is so over the top that you can't help but roll your eyes. Yet, you can't stop reading. It's literally a road-side accident, the kind you know you should look away from but can't. There was multiple times where I physically winced, and that’s saying a lot because it takes a lot to do that. I have been wanting to read something by Freida McFadden for sometime now-and since I have traveled for work, and stayed in hotels every week for many years-I love reading creepy stories which take place in hotels and motels, so this was the perfect book to start with!Wrong is having none of it. She writes that the west’s implicitly racist pandering to an authoritarian leader helped entrench his power and spread conflict across the region. As for its much vaunted development policies, Wrong concludes that Rwanda’s economy is held together by aid. “The sad thing about the west’s current gushing admiration for strongman rule in central Africa is its historical naivety,” she writes. The concept here is simple: Kirsty and Adrain along with there two daughters and Kirstys mother make a big move to a small village in Wales to run a guest house together. The reality is that this is not a book about Rwanda, the RPF, or least of all, the Rwanda head of state, Paul Kagame. This had so much going on in terms of story development managing to keep me guessing till the very end. Kirsty is starting a new life running a guesthouse in the Welsh mountains. As the first guests start to arrive including her old friend Selena, Kirsty is anxious for everything to run smoothly.

Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, participates in a session at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019. (AP Photo/Markus Schreiber) Kirsty, husband Adrian, their young daughters and Kirsty’s mother move to the Brecon Beacons to fulfil the dream of opening a guest house. The place needs a lot of work - and not all the locals are friendly - but they’re finally ready to open the doors and welcome the first guests. Sigh.... the ending fizzled for me. The plot twist used a recycled tactic that I dislike. Oh, the let down.I finished this book in less than 2 days - that's how fast the pace is and how engaging the story is. I gave it 2.5 stars rounded up to 3. The plot twist is good (I did see it coming). Perhaps the explanation for the motive is a bit too convenient.

Following a difficult 18 months, Kirsty and Adrian decide to relocate from London to the village of Hywelphilly in the beautiful Breacon Beacons, Wales with their two daughters, Amelia and Evie, to open a Bed & Breakfast with Kirsty's mother. Leaving behind the only life they've known and all of the memories associated with 'The Big Smoke' after Adrian suffered a nervous breakdown, they feel that this is the change they so desperately need. As if that's not enough upheaval for them to deal with, her mother invites Selena to stay, the niece that they had previously cut out of their lives due to her blatant untruths and have not spoken with in over sixteen years. Now that they are both adults, Kirsty decides to put the past behind her after seeing Selena with daughter Ruby. Later, more estranged family members suddenly appear at the guest house including Kirsty's adopted brother, Nathan and his wife and one of Selena's former boyfriends who wants to rent a room. Trouble is certainly in the air and soon terrible things start to happen!Enter the world of Jon Athan where anything and everything is possible. This read is extremely reminiscent of "The Purge" franchise but with its own unique Athan twist. This story is extremely brutal. I can't express that enough. While I consider Lacey and Colton to be the main character's, there are a lot of other characters as well that experience some serious terror, torture, and death. These killer clowns are ruthless and unrelenting. On their way to Vegas, Lacey and Colton get a flat tire while passing through the desert. Eventually, they reach a small town, and see the Motel Ace - with a vacancy sign. Unable to get a cell signal, and with all local phone lines down, they cannot get any help, and have no choice but to rent a room.
