Maegan, a classic overachiever, has been living in her older sister's shadow for years. Feeling pressured to succeed, Maegan cheats while sitting for her SAT, causing consequences for everyone in the room. Two things I really admire about BK is her ability to write about broken/lonely people and also male friendships. I just wish she would put a bit more effort into creating better female friendships rep. When your dad stole half the towns investment money and everyone thinks you were in on it — no one really wants anything to do with you. No longer the High School Golden Boy, Rob is reminded everyday of the crimes of his father and is hated for it. Mae I kept thinking to myself how would I have treated someone like Rob if all I knew were rumours? I'd like to think I wouldn't have jumped to conclusions or have been as horrible as some of the people at Rob's school.

Finally, what makes Call It What You Want my new favorite book from Kemmerer is the fact that she really had me thinking about some tough topics, especially as they pertain to Rob. Rob is desperate to try to fix what his father did and contemplates crossing into morally gray territory to make it happen. It really got me thinking about right and wrong. Can you ever really make something right by committing a wrong? I love a book that can engage me with such important and thought-provoking topics. Two beautiful souls shunned by popular kids of school, left alone, suffering from family dramas, trying to exist at the high school jungle, surrounded by meanness, unfairness, judgmental perspectives of people which pushes Rob having some dangerous choices to atone his father’s sins to bring the justice in Robin Hood way : Taking from people who have so much and sharing it with the people who need to stay alive! They start seeing each other because of a calculus homework, and they grow close too fast to be honest (also because calculus was almost never the reason they met), but their relationship was great. First of all, Rob talked freely with Meagan about their relationship. I don’t understand why YA characters are so fixated with waiting for the other one to text first the day after the first kiss, but here it didn’t happen. I devoured this book in less than 24 hours, which is a pretty rare occurrence for me now that I have both a teenager and a toddler in the house. Falling in love with Rob and Maegan was so easy to do. Brigid Kemmerer is brilliant at creating these scruffy underdog characters with complex layers who are undervalued and underappreciated by the people around them. Rob and Maegan both have a whole lot on their plates. Rob’s rich dad attempted suicide after he was caught embezzling their community and he’s now severely disabled, unable to speak or do anything for himself. Until eight months ago, “Everyone wanted to be me,” but now Rob’s an outcast, tainted by his father’s fraud, which is something Maegan also knows a thing or two about. Previously an academic overachiever, pressures led her to cheat in last year’s exams, which in turn led to hundreds of her peers’ marks being invalidated.

Kemmerer won me over years ago with her Elemental series and with each new book, regardless of the genre, she continues to wow me. With her fleshed out characters, stand out story lines and heartfelt messages, she is an author I count on to give me a good story that is every bit as irresistible as it is hard to put down once started. se, že láska je jako choroba... A já jsem se jí nakazila v době, kdy celý svět mluvil o jiné nemoci."

Call It What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer follows Rob and Maegan as they try to navigate their families, school and trying to find if you have to do something wrong to make things right. After Rob’s dad is caught embezzling money from half their down, Rob has to deal with the fallout that follows. After the pressure got to Maegan last year, she feels that everything around her is falling apart, and then her sister comes home pregnant. Now paired together for a project, Maegan and Rob try hard to keep their walls up, but that doesn’t seem to work. But when Rob attempts to fix his father’s wrongdoings that might be the end of them.Family is a massive theme throughout Call It What You Wantand it was done so well again by Brigid Kemmerer. She knows how to write complicated and beautiful family dynamics that take the reader on a journey. Maegan’s relationship with her sister was a major plot in this book. And I loved it. Their relationship has many ups and downs. They yell at one another, they scream at each other but they would also do anything for each other. CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT has more language and sexual content than I remember her earlier books having, though. See the content section below for more information. Readers will find it easy to fall into Rev and Emma's lives as romance hovers between them and they confront the violence of their past and present - Publishers Weekly

FTC Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley. All opinions are my own. This captivating, heartfelt novel asks the question: Is it okay to do something wrong for the right reasons?Maegan always does the right thing. But when her sister comes home from college pregnant, she's caught between telling their parents the truth about the father and keeping her sister's trust. My best friend gave me this book as a birthday present and I asked her out of curiosity why this book in particular (because it was already in my tbr but I never told her about it) so she said: ''Easy, I know your favorite genre is young adult and I know you love pink''. I guess I taught her well. 😅

As i said before, i liked this. But it needs an editor!!! Please!!!!😭 The amount of spelling mistakes was unnerving. Maegen and Rob are outcasts: Maegan cheated on her SATS and Rob's father defrauded almost the entire town of their life savings through a fraudulent investment scheme.
