It first launched in 1929 as a caramel-coloured lemon-lime soda, which he positioned as a drink with a 'flavour wallop'. Despite launching at the start of the Great Depression and competing against 600 other lemon-lime soft drinks already in the marketplace, the new brand sold well and by the late 1940s had become the third best-selling soft drink in the world. Famous for its refreshing taste and its real fruit tang, Tango was acquired by Britvic in 1987. The brand gained attention in the UK in the late 1980s and 1990s for disrupting soft drinks marketing with its creative ‘You know when you've been Tango’d’ advertising campaign which was seen to completely challenge the norms of the soft drinks market at the time. The campaign propelled the brand to success and became one of the most well-known TV adverts of all time.
