Surprisingly Sudden Death: Kyomoto and 11 others at her art school are killed by a random act of violence by a delusional man halfway through the one shot. The remainder of the story is centered on Fujino dealing with the grief of losing Kyomoto. If I’m going to serialize in Shonen Jump Plus, I’d like to do something that Weekly Shonen Jump can’t do, something like anti-jump” Tatsuki Fujimoto 藤本タツキ (Fujimoto Tatsuki) is a Japanese manga author, mostly known for Chainsaw Man. Jump J-Books (in Japanese). Shueisha. Archived from the original on February 10, 2021 . Retrieved February 10, 2021. The biggest gripe I have is the character designs. Fujino and Kyomoto look slightly different as kids because they have different hair-dos but otherwise are identical. Then there’s the time jump and it’s not immediately clear who we’re following, particularly as they now look like the other character but aren’t. Fujimoto is a gifted artist but he really needs to make his characters more distinct than simply giving one slightly longer hair than the other, particularly if you’re then going to give a different character the exact same cut as the other character later on down the line! It’s so unnecessarily confusing.

But coming from the author of Chainsaw Man I had to give it a try. And for my surprise, it was so worth it!

Story - The story is fairly simple, Fujino loves to draw for her school's newspaper, everyone in her class adores her art, then her teacher tells Fujino that another student would also like to submit a comic strip for her school's newspaper. Kyomoto, the new newspaper artist stuns the class as Fujino gets jealous since her arts is barely average compared to Kyomoto's. Soon both of them meet and pair up, writing manga together. The story isn't complicated at all and tells a story of two manga artists coming they become rivals at first and soon friends, working together to create, bringing joy to each other through their company and creations. nonetheless this is not an equal friendship! kyoumoto adores fujino, and is almost fully dependent on her in the beginning. slowly she gains more and more independence, and as she does seem to have found her independence Chainsaw Man, vol. 11] (in Japanese). unlike most of his works this one took place in the real world ,where no super powers or mythical stuff exist. relationship feels natural as they push each other to become better artists and expand their personal boundaries; becoming better versions of themselves. Watching as they find comfort and safety in one another is also portrayed beautifully, with Fujimoto utilising scenery to really convey the emotions that the characters are feeling. Goodbye, Eri ( さよなら絵梨, Sayonara Eri ) (2022) — Published in Shōnen Jump+ and collected in one volume As simple as it is, I have to say that it cut deep and really connected with me, as any touching in art, and the creative process, tend to do.

Fujimoto, as usual, does a great job with the characters. They're instantly lovable with great chemistry. They grow throughout the story and you can never really predict what they'll do next. They feel alive; they're written as humans, not as archetypes. Famitsu (in Japanese). July 21, 2021. Archived from the original on July 21, 2021 . Retrieved July 21, 2021. I am sure you’ve all seen studio MAPPA’s CEO, Manabu Otsuka, talking about Fujimoto’s work and his desire to eventually animate them all. This, of course, would be a wonderful addition to the anime world, but I can’t help but think that there would be a better choice for a studio, should the opportunity arise. Fujino was driven to improve her art out of jealousy for Kyomoto's own skills, only to discover to her internalized delight that Kyomoto was essentially her biggest fan just as she had decided to quit drawing. This pushes her to seriously pursue a career in manga.
