Gruesome murders had happened there, and when developers began work there and uncovered several skeletons, the killings start again, despite Jackson Temple -the man convicted of those murders and house's original owner - being in prison. It fleshes out the narrative for the reader without giving any hint of how the novel will develop or be resolved. They are like old friends and over the years we have grown fond of them all, except for Wesley’s mother in law.

I do admit that I had to smile when I learned that developers were turning the former home of a serial killer with an address on Dead Man's Lane into luxury holiday homes. This is what makes Kate Ellis such a joy to read, misdirection or other possibilities, machinations posed by her narrative style. I confess that I have not read any of the previous installments of this series, and so those may have revealed more about the characters and built a more solid and interesting family. There are a number of characters attempting to stay under the radar for various reasons with many secrets to be uncovered before more loss of life. Country florists don’t get murdered gruesomely; they’re sweet, innocent and kind, but Kate Ellis’s latest DCI Wesley Patterson mystery novel breaks that axiom, like snapping the stems from a multi-coloured bouquet. This is the first book by Kate Ellis that I have read and found it really interesting and intriguing. If only I could tell her – we go to every corner of the world, even to the moon and back, and yet nothing has really changed.The usual mixture of an old historic case, a modern series of crimes and the discovery of a diary which explains the historic case. The girl would’ve walked away too, moved on, leaving the hilltop behind, knowing that no matter what changes, the same sun will bath this place in light. Even from here, beyond the daisies scattered along the hillside, and hidden in amongst the trees of the valley, I could see Netherbury.
