Talking just for the sake of talking does not solve anything and in the end, proves to run rather expensive both for the individual and for the organization. The author inserts too much of her life into the advice--it may be easy and affordable for her to take a retreat and really think about things, or wake up at 4 to sip tea and meditate before her fireplace, but that's a bit excessive for the average working Joe. Be that as it may, I'm offering two stars, because there are nuggets of wisdom that can be gleaned from each chapter, and I am certainly taking a phrase or two offered by Susan Scott and keeping them in my back pocket.

I encourage everyone to sit down with one person, without distractions, and to talk while listening intently to what they have to say. Whether it's home or at work - I think this book can help you take a step in the right direction to develop those tools. This is true because Susan later goes on to explain that if we do not accurately identify the problem, the time and effort put into trying to resolve the issue will be wasted. Edward Jason Beltran is a contributor to Forbes and Fast Company and is the architect of what some media have referred to as one of the most important employee wellbeing initiatives in recent years – the disruptive app Pulse by Fierce, due to be released in fall of 2022.

Here's the crux of the problem: Susan Scott doesn't appear capable of saying anything without using an anecdote or drawing reference from things that should have no bearing on the topic (eg.

Let Silence Do the Heavy Lifting – Allow silence when having a conversation; the more important the topic, the longer the silence.
