That means that you don’t have any other terminals to extend functionality with. Pioneer DDJ SP-1 Controller for Serato software Like the forerunner that came before it, the DDJ-SP1 withstands the unpredictable environment of the DJ booth, with a stylish yet durable aluminum faceplate. A separate Serato DJ Pro-certified mixer (e.g. DJM-900SRT) or controller (e.g. DDJ-S1) is required. Pioneer seems to have something for everyone in its collection of powerful controllers and add-on tools. For those who want to transform their Serato DJ Pro experience, one particularly compelling product is the Pioneer DDJ-SP1. In either mode on the DDJ SP1, the encoder included in the tech will adjust the timing of the beat syncing function from 30 values.

With an excellent layout supported by a shift layer, the DDJ SP1 provides a handy way to upgrade the control and pad sections of your SX mixer. DDJ-SP1 supports the Serato DJ Pro, which offers a great number of functions required for DJ performances. All of this unit's buttons and controls are preset to work with the software, so DJ performances can be conducted simply by connecting this unit to a computer. Precautions: Operation is not guaranteed on all computers, even if all the required operating environment conditions indicated here are fulfilled. Notably, there aren’t a lot of options available for effect manipulation here. The device assumes that you’re already using a DJ mixer with the right EQ and FX options on board. This midi controller is perfectly tuned to work with Serato software; however, you can also remap the 16 included pads to work with other software too. If you’re a Serato DJ user who doesn’t think their controller provides adequate access to certain performance modes and effects, then the Pioneer DDJ-SP1 could be perfect for you. Performance Pads: sixteen rubber Performance Pads are assigned to seven modes: Hot Cue, Roll, Sample, Slicer, Auto Loop, Hot Loop and Manual Loop. The LED illuminated pads’ Velocity Mode lets DJs control the sample volume with the amount of pressure they apply. LED illumination on each pad gives DJs an instant visual reference for the state of play.

The DDJ-SP1’s pre-mapped buttons, fader and dials have been designed purposely for managing all Serato DJ features. The layout is similar to Pioneers’ well known controller range for ease of use and familiarity amongst DJs. Here are some of the newest features: While you can potentially use the DDJ-SP1with virtually any software, as long as you know how to map things out according to the templates provided, Pioneer created this machine for Serato. Performance Pads – there are 16 durable, LED lit, rubber Performance Pads that are allocated to 7 modes: Roll, Sample, Hot Cue, Slicer, Hot Loop, Manual Loop and Auto Loop. The Performance Pads includes Velocity Mode which allows the user to manage the sample volume dependent upon the applied pressure. The LED lit pads show the user the position of play. A single fader in the central part of the controller handles the volume, while knobs on both sides control FX parameters. Is the DDJ SP1 any good? (in short)Again, it’s another unit that confirms the long ago predicted move to modular controllers. A mixer is a mixer is a mixer, but it truly becomes a Serato DJ controller only when you add specific software based features via hardware add-ons. I feel that as a SP-6 controller, it still falls short of harnessing the full power, and for me is more of an overall controller for key features. This still only triggers samples — there appears to be no control for the finer elements of the SP-6. Finally, the 2 pad Sampler modes work in conjunction with the Serato DJ SP-6 sampler. The only difference is that the Velocity Sampler mode alters sample volume according the strength which with you hit the pad, and the regular Sampler mode triggers samples at full volume every time. This is pure common sense for Pioneer and Serato to do this. Firstly, it smoothes the way for the DJM-900SRT to be embraced by the club world, and at the same time offers a more compelling performance unit to access key features of Serato DJ. That said, the Traktor Kontrol narrow format does fit better at the side of a mixer, and is possibly a better location. But from a turning up at the club and plugging in perspective, the DDJ-SP1 doesn’t require disrupting the booth. Serato DJ Intro and Serato DJ have been renamed and are now known as Serato DJ Lite and Serato DJ Pro, respectively. Earlier this week, Pioneer DJ announced a significant update for their Rekordbox DJ library and performance software. Most notably, this update stabilized the fledgling DJ software compatibility with the latest version of Mac OS, Sierra, as well as offered Rekordbox DJ support for the Pioneer DDJ-SP1 performance pad controller when combined with another supported controller.
