Wonderful job on showing how a divorce will feel for a kid, like his world, like his everything is also broken apart. This book is written as a poem and is a lovely way to help children and make them aware of marriage break-ups between their parents and that there are ways of coping and that it will all be alright. Essentially, the little boy, who is trying to use an inanimate tool, to fix a very real, tangible problem, comes to find that some things in life you cannot fix. However in doing this, Gray only places the reader into the situation of the protagonist, wondering when their inner turmoil will be over. For my future classroom, I hope to get a copy of this book for children to read if they are ever in the same situation as the main character of this story so that they are able to understand what is happening more.

The illustrations and rhymes are lighthearted and make the book feel very accessible for adults and children. This message is conveyed in a meaningful way whilst being light hearted in the storyline approaching a difficult topic in a sensitive way. A powerful poem which follows a boy who’s parents are getting divorced and feels like he is to blame and struggling to come to terms with it. By telling the story from the perspective of a child, the story creates a sense of longing in the reader and allows them to be swept up in the narrative as if they were in the text themselves. Mum and Dad Glue is a kindly voice that will hopefully make them understand and feel a little better. It offers a slightly different approach, but the core theme is exactly as you'd expect, and rightly so. As the book progresses we see the kid try to get his parents together again, to have them kiss, to have them love each other again. The child's concept of sticking his parents back together with glue is so down to earth and truly places the reader into the mindset of a young person desperate for his mum and dad to stay together. While I understand (and respect) what the book was trying to achieve in terms of accepting/coming to terms with parental separation, I felt that the words used placed a lot of pressure on the child to feel a certain way. The illustration powerfully pairs with the text, as everything from buildings, lamp-posts and lunch boxes are broken in two.

Although I think this story focused on parent separation in a nice way, I did feel like the ending was a bit abrupt. Would be a good book to use in a PSHE lesson or if children in the class have parents going through divorce. It softly and gently addresses what can be such a difficult subject with lighthearted illustrations and rhyming poetry. Summary: A sensitive and helpful message book about a young child trying to come to terms with his parents' divorce. Every Second Friday by Kiri Lightfoot and Ben Galbraith is another message book about divorce, this time dealing with children getting used to having two different homes. The illustrations were very detailed and used warm toned colours which was quite effective in making me feel comforted whilst reading it.

This book is written as a poem and tells the story of a little boy whos parents are getting divorced. Told from the perspective of the boy allows the reader to step into his shoes and experience the emotions he is feeling and empathise with him. Most of the time it is not the fault of the kid, most of the time parents just lose their love, or find a new love, or some other reason. It is important for him to look into the future and see that things will be okay and that they will always love him. This story is told in such a kind and soft way that this may allow children to feel comfortable to talk about the subject.

This was a beautiful, a bit humorous, but also sad book about a boy and his parents who are going to separate. I think this book can help bring comfort to children going through this and lets students who haven't gone through this to sympathize with their classmates more.If you require any changes to this format please indicate in 'Any comments or special requirements' box at checkout. In the second half of the book, where the main character realizes that it is ok and that hearts cannot be put back together with glue the images are no longer broken. This book will be very relatable for many children and can spark great discussion with any aged child.
