As your 856 is new don‘t overly worry if it’s doing this in shorter times than mine above, as I seem to remember the times were quite shorter when mine was new, or perhaps I was just watching it more… The new P5 AI Intelligent Picture Engine uses neural networks and machine learning to adjust the balance between Philips’ five pillars of PQ – source, colour, contrast, motion and sharpness – for a more realistic and natural image. Philips’ first Mini LED TV is the 9635. Like the OLED+ series it gets an integrated 3.1.2 B&W Atmos sound system. DTS Play-Fi covers Hi-Res audio support and multi-room capabilities.

Ergonomics Information about the ergonomic functions - height adjustment, swivel angles, tilt angles, etc. VESA mount Mini LED joins the Philips family of TVs, promising thin screens and blazing HDR brightness. However, Philips won’t be wading into the 8K with no models on the horizon. Switching to Movie mode does hamper the directness and projection of dialogue, and the speaker system isn’t quite crisp and clean enough to maintain complete control at particularly cacophonous moments, but for an integrated sound solution at this level, it’s good. You should still budget for a soundbar or home cinema system if you’re able to, though. Verdict The first half involves looking at the OLED806 from the dead ahead - which, let’s face it, is how you’ll gaze on it most of the time. From this angle, the Philips is a clean and understated looker, with minimal and tidily finished bezels surrounding the screen. It’s discreet to the point of anonymity - the only branding to be seen is on one of the slender feet on which it stands. In what passes for a design flourish, Philips allows you to fit the feet one of two ways: either with a bright metal finish visible or with a darker, more smoked alternative on view. In either case, the screen sits very low on its feet, which means there’s no way of putting a soundbar between the bottom of the screen and the surface it’s standing on.Cinematic vision and sound. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos Support for Dolby's premium sound and video formats means that the HDR content that you watch will look—and sound—glorious. You'll enjoy a picture that reflects the director's original intentions and experience spacious sound with real clarity and depth. For now, the OLED806 features Android TV (v10) as an operating system. It’s not half-bad by the generally pretty bad standards of Android TV, with a good selection of apps (including Disney+ but not Apple TV) and a layout that’s marginally less infuriating than on previous Android TV interfaces.

The maximum number of colors, which the display is able to reproduce, depends on the type of the panel in use and color enhancing technologies like FRC. Other TVs to arrive in the latter half of 2021 include the 75-inch 7906 model. Again, there's 3-sided Ambilight rather than the full four sides but the TV includes everything else you could need like Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support. From the OLED856 to the 9206, 4K/120Hz, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro will be supported. Philips is finally a TV tuned for gamers. 5th Gen P5 AI picture processor The 43- to 65-inch models get a T-bar stand for support, with the sizes up to 58-inches getting swivel action. The biggest models in the range switch to feet at either side that can adjusted to narrow or wide configurations. Android App offerings vary per country. Rather than using the Android TV smart platform usually found on high-end Philips screens – and which this reviewer usually prefers – the Philips 55OLED754 is instead using the Linux-based Saphi platform. Philips 8505 4K HDR LED (available in 43, 50, 58, 65, 70 inches): This Philips set is at the tail end of the premium range, or the top end of the mid-range, depending on your perspective. You’ll get the same three-sided Ambilight and P5 picture processor as the sets above, with a smaller 20W audio output from built-in speakers (no soundbar here.) The stand design varies between panel sizes, but you should get the same picture quality from the 43-inch to 70-inch model. Philips OLED 754 line comes in two sizes – 65-inch and 55-inch. As the 55OLED754 name suggests, we’ve been testing the 55-inch model. Google Assistant is available on Philips Android TVs running on Android O (8) or higher OS version. Google Assistant is available in selected languages and countries. As you’d expect, the screen really comes into its own with 4K HDR content. Philips is happy to support all major forms of HDR standards, including Hybrid Log Gamma ( HLG), HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, meaning you’re getting an optimal image no matter what the source HDR content is. It’s still relatively rare at this point to see the two latter formats – dynamic metadata formats that adjust HDR performance on a frame-by-frame basis – supported in budget-orientated TVs, but we’re not complaining to see them both here. Information about whether there is a possibility for wall mounting according to the VESA Mounting Interface Standard (MIS). We’d speculate that some of the 800 series OLED features, such as the Fast Motion Clarity, may not make it to this model. No release date or price has been revealed yet.

Voice control. The Google Assistant. Works with Alexa.

Philips has not officially announced the OLED706, which gives us the impression it’s due later in the year and likely the re-introduction of its cheaper OLED model (like the OLED754). Its specification is a near match for the OLED806, from its P5 AI processor down to its 50W 2.1 sound system. The biggest differences we can tell are the three-sided Ambilight and a less premium remote. Great for gaming. Ultra-low latency on any console Your Philips TV boasts the latest HDMI 2.1 connectivity and automatically switches to an ultra-low-latency setting when you start playing a game on your console. VRR and Freesync are supported for smooth fast-action gameplay. Ambilight's gaming mode brings the thrill right into the room. There was also the release of the OLED 706 - an entry-level OLED screen. It offers the same P5 Gen 5 processor on pricier models, along with 4K HDR and a 120Hz panel. The Philips 55OLED754 features three-sided Ambilight, which means it has three strips of LEDs that run along the top, left and right sides of the set, beaming out colors that mimic the onscreen action. Its intensity can be tweaked, as can options to make it follow the set’s audio as opposed to visuals, and it can also act as an ambient light with the screen switched off if you desire. If you have Philips Hue connected light bulbs in your home, the whole room can sync up, bathing you in the colours of the programme you’re watching. No other brands’ TVs offer anything like it, and while it’s an acquired taste – some find it distracting – it’s certainly striking.
