You can't talk about epic fantasy without acknowledging the titanic influence Robert Jordan has had on the grenre.

With Siuan’s knowledge of the Blue Ajah’s eyes and ears network, they make it to Salidar, where the rebel Aes Sedais are camped.

Yet when they learn of the division in the Tower they are left without direction—and soon the Forsaken, Moghedien, begins to hunt them looking to exact vengeance against Nynaeve. The Last Battle is approaching rapidly, for the seals of the Dark One's prison are beginning to crumble. Rand has begun to listen to Moiraine’s advice, more so because she doesn’t force him and because she allows him to make his own decisions. Robert Jordan would later do the same for Mat Cauthon (who is absent from The Path of Daggers) and Rand al'Thor (who is absent from almost all of Crossroads of Twilight and was already absent from most of The Dragon Reborn). Moiraine had named it no coincidence, three such growing up in the same village, all nearly the same age; the Wheel wove happenstance and coincidence into the Pattern, but it did not lay down the likes of the three of them for no reason.

After a prologue in which we see Elaida Sedai, current Amrylin Seat, succumb to her ego and control issues and watch the Forsakens plot to take down Rand, the story begins with Min, Siuan, and Leane on the run with Logain. Jordan does deliver the whole meal, albeit, under a mountain of napkins you have to remove, piece by piece, before digging in. Into the Amyrlin's study in the White Tower, where the Amyrlin, Flaida do Avriny a'Roihan, is weaving new plans. Finally, This is the book in which Moiraine has her own crowning moment of awesomeness in a fight against Lanfear.

Into the forbidden city of Rhuidean, where Rand al'Thor, now the Dragon Reborn, must conceal his present endeavor from all about him, even Egwene and Moiraine. As I said before, there are some genuinely great parts — the final battle of the book, the apparent sacrifice of Moiraine, the divided White Tower arc that continued from the previous book, Nyaneve's rivalry with Moghedien. Jordan deftly weaves details from previous books into this narrative and includes a glossary so that new readers can pick up the saga at this point. The core storyline of The Wheel of Time is Rand Al’Thor marching ever closer to his Final Battle against The Dark One.

Vultures and ravens and flies together could not really have made the sunlight dimmer, yet it seemed so.We ask all users help us create a welcoming environment by reporting posts/comments that do not follow the subreddit rules. I also like the method of her training: learning from the Aiel’s Wise Ones and observing Moiraine and following suit. Nynaeve can come across as a stuck up misandrist at times, but by reading these scenes, you get a feel that it's all a front. Rand forgot his dinner meeting with Colavaere since he was busy planning the battle with the clan chiefs and Wise Ones. I'll welcome any ruler as an ally who welcomes me, but so far all I've seen is maneuvering for power, or outright hostility.
