The player will be paired with a Marantz PM8006 integrated and Sierra 2EX speakers. It will replace a Sony CDP-425 which is nearly as old as I am. It sounds fine but it’s the only CD player I’ve ever had, so I’m interested in trying something modern. In addition, Marantz have included a new remote that also controls the fitting PM6007 amplifier. The CD6007 features a newly-developed, sophisticated headphone amplifier with a headphone amp gain setting to accommodate a wide range of headphones.

The Marantz CD6007 CD player is engineered with carefully selected components, along with a double-layered bottom plate to dampen any resonance and ensure a cleaner, better focused sound. The CD player features an RCA analogue output to connect to an amplifier, as well as both optical and coaxial digital outputs to use an outboard DAC. Marantz CD6007 CD Player features

Do all the engineering changes bring about a worthwhile improvement in sound quality? The short answer is definitely yes, however it’s not a step change.

In the vast majority of cases we will not be able to install the cabinet doors to built-in laundry products as the fittings very rarely match up. We will try our best however if we are unable to do this we will still install connect to plumbing and put the appliance in situ. The Marantz, following upon several other CD players I have had, including the Arcam FMJ CD 23, Schiit Ygdrassil DAC, Rega Apollo, a Cambridge player (forget the model #), shows itself to be a good performer. It does not, however, see "into" the soundstage in the sense of sounding completely organic. There is a sense of a "remove" from "being there" and is more like hearing it through a very slightly dry presentation with a very fine scrim over the sound. The sound approaches "liquidity" (which is how sound moves through the air in real life. We hear it every day). Considering its price, that might not be expected in such a modest player, but "organic" is, nonetheless, high on my list since the rest of my system (ARC/Shunyata/Nola) can do this. Marantz also now offers a choice of two digital filter options for those that like to tweak further. Filter 1 has a slow roll-off and is claimed to offer a deeper stereo image while Filter 2, has a sharper roll-off and is meant to produce a more direct and brighter presentation.
