Besides in AYA NEO you get to run the PC version of games, which can be much lower priced than the console version. The Ayaneo 2 comes with a decent pair of speakers. Like most handhelds, they sound a bit thin but are perfectly usable at medium volumes. Any handheld device is going to struggle to sound good at high volume, but the Ayaneo 2 is very playable at about 80% or lower. I would recommend plugging in a gaming headset, but if you’d rather not, it comes with built in microphones for team chat. At 400 nits of peak brightness, the screen is bright and vibrant. Direct sunlight can still wash it out, but playing outside is possible, adding to its portability. It’s not an OLED screen like the Air, but its LCD screen still offers great colors and about as good of contrast as you can expect from an IPS panel. For gaming, the AYANEO 2 excels, it can run the latest AAA Windows games at comfortable resolutions up to 1200P and depending on the game up to the highest graphics settings. This handheld PC is also excellent for retro gaming, able to play up to sixth-generation consoles at lower TDP to conserve battery. It is also able to run compatible seventh and eighth-generation systems and games at full speed! AYANEO always seems to put a lot of thought into their products, and you can tell by the fact that the AYANEO Next comes with a set of gloves. (Really! We are seeing around a 10% average increase in performance compared to the previous AYA NEO 2 model ( review here). It falls a little short on the 15% increase found on the GPD WIN MAX 2 and 2023 models. Compatible games on RPCS3 run very well. Our go to games Tekken 6 and WipeoutHD played excellent, you may see an occasional frame drop here and there but you would not notice without a FPS display on screen.
