Scarred by his experiences in World War I, German doctor, Sebastian Braun lives a quiet life tending to his patients and his beloved garden. Harper Brown is a British journalist in her late 20s, working as an arts-culture columnist for a Paris online magazine, The Paris Observer. Her ambition is to succeed as an investigative crime journalist, a goal she's pursuing doggedly after wasting years supporting a former partner, a musician, who dumped her as soon as his band found success. Her love of true-crime podcasts has enabled her to amass an intriguing armoury of self-preservation and crime-busting skills, detailed through her blog How Not to Get Murdered.Of course, I still haven't told him who I am either, so yes, technically that makes me a hypocrite but whatever. Nobody is perfect." Other characters in the book include Gethyn a doctor working alongside Rosie and relate well with each other. The two encourage and help one another to stay strong and positive while in the desert. Rosie’s parents are lovely, and they also send her letters while in the Middle East with words of encouragement, which keeping her smiling. You must also know how angry I am that a wonderful, kind man who wants and knows only peace, who would never hurt a soul, is forced to choose either one awful situation or the other.’ The author’s writing in The Paris Affair has surpassed itself, with prose and ideas that touch the reader deeply, making it a brilliant read for many reasons. The main character, Sebastian, is unique for the genre and time period, and his story is narrated from a first-person perspective, allowing the reader to become his advocate. Sebastian is a German veteran of WWI who has made a new life for himself on the island of Sark, where he tends his garden and wants nothing to do with the new war. The story takes place during WWII, with Sebastian telling his life story to a prison priest as he awaits execution. The Paris based setting was the big drawcard for me and this novel. I am a huge Francophile, so anything set in Paris is going to immediately reel me in! Drysdale does a fine job with her setting, offering the reader a glimpse into another side of Paris. Drysdale removes the mask of love, lights and allure and she takes an abrasive look at one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Drysdale’s Paris is a place of violence, murder and mystery. I liked this alternative focus on the ominous side to a city I adore with all my heart. Thanks to Drysdale’s well-placed descriptions within her novel, the audience is completely immersed in this vivid setting base.

Melanie Hudson is an English author of classics, romance and fiction books. She’s worked as speech-language pathologist for more than 30 years in private, public schools and universities. Melanie became a published author in 2012 The Wedding Cake Tree was published. My life, looked at in such a way, has been hell. But speaking with you, I have found that if I write my story in another way, if I spin the yarn with a lighter thread, I can only conclude that I have been blessed.’ The plot is well paced and structured and it pulled me into the deception, suspense and tension and my sigh of relief was welcome when things seemed to be working out for the characters. I appreciated the great balance between showing and telling as well as the reminder that we become someone else when we do things simply to be accepted by others. Sascha was a perfect example of this on more than one occasion. As the Germans approach the Channel Islands, Sebastian has to make choices: be the peace-loving man he has become or stand up and fight for his principles? When he and Sophie are separated, Sebastian is left realising love may have eluded him forever. Until a chance meeting in Paris sets the wheels in motion for a dangerously devastating love affair. The added touch of French language-based chapter headings helped to set the mood and tone for this very chic Parisian novel. I loved it The Paris Affair and I hope you do too! Harper's still smarting from being dumped unceremoniously after having supported her now-successful boyfriend through fledgling days as a musician.

The storyline of The Paris Affair is captivating, addicting, heart-warming yet heart breaking. The author does a fantastic job at setting the story line and going at a perfect pace. The character development is phenomenal. The banter and conversations between the characters was one of my favorite things about this book. The detailed conversations, raw and in depth emotions and funny banter amongst the characters was very well done. Compared to experience of actual resistance fighters, narrative seems tame. Told readers of Nazi and Resistance brutality but didn’t feel it. Hudson’s penchant for happy resolutions will leave little suspense of the final outcome. Journalist, Harper Brown is the @new.girlinparis but she's no stranger to the ‘city of love’. Love hasn't been so kind to Harper, having wasted eight years on a man she thought was ‘the love of her life, only to be epically dumped when he finally got his big break as a musician. Now, bitter and cynical Harper trolls the city for men to hook up with. But her risky behaviour is about to place not only her job in jeopardy, but her life as well. The story gathers momentum towards a dizzying crescendo as Harper races against time to prove Noah's innocence and identify the real killer or killers.Drysdale introduces a charming relationship between Harper and her best friend Camilla that felt very real and it's a reminder how important close confidantes and trusted and supportive friends can be. An absolutely enthralling read from beginning to end…The historical research that has gone into this book is incredible. A fantastic story. A definite must read’ Amy For the first time in my life, I was in love: wholly, completely and honestly in love. My timing could have been better.’ You must also know how angry I am that a wond Here however, we've got the added bonus of a murder. So, Emily in Paris meets Girl on a Train. Perhaps.
