Description

The latest edition provides new and revised content, with a range of features, including: A broad range of introductory vignettes, application examples, and online resources New material and topics to consolidate and enhance your understanding of the subject New, modernised applications to prepare your learning of the most innovative topics, such as machine learning, Artificial Intelligence, and digital signal processing With an array of exercises and questions to support your learning, this textbook provides the tools you need to build on your understanding of linear algebra and succeed in your studies. However, a good textbook should be self-evident, unlike Gilbert Strang's which requires you to go through MIT videos. I read this book in library, the content is actually good, it shows in comparition to "dry" maths book , how to use algebra in everyday activities and engineering.

David Lay has received four university awards for teaching excellence, including, in 1996, the title of Distinguished Scholar―Teacher of the University of Maryland. Chapter 3 teaches about matrix operations such as matrix multiplication, matrix inversion and transposing matrices. Also available with MyMathLab MyMathLab is an online homework, tutorial, and assessment program designed to work with this text to engage students and improve results. The Editorial team at Pearson has worked closely with educators around the world to include content, which is especially relevant to students outside the United States.Q1 (green) comprises the quarter of the journals with the highest values, Q2 (yellow) the second highest values, Q3 (orange) the third highest values and Q4 (red) the lowest values. This book is designed from first principles to demonstrate the importance of linear algebra through working computational examples with R and Python, including tutorials on how to install R in the Appendix. He has been elected by the university students to membership in Alpha Lambda Delta National Scholastic Honor Society and Golden Key National Honor Society.

The applications are much weaker in Strang, but the linear-spaces material is much better integrated. In a flash of providential insight, young Gauss realized that the pairwise sums of numbers from both ends of the set (1+100, 2+99, 3+98) were each 101. Like any proper courtship, the reader is led to learn about the equation's backgrounds, goals, and common activities before any intermingling takes place. The examples in the textbook made doing the homework a much easier process, and while I'm still confused on the point of linear algebra and much of how it works, this book did help me get a solid introduction, so I'll take it!Strang seemed like a very nice guy when I saw him speak, but his book is no match for Lay's in terms of doing awesome things like making wonderful lists of all the 50 different statements that mean the same thing (for example: determinant of matrix is nonzero <-> matrix has full rank <-> matrix's columns are linearly independent <-> etc. He is a member of the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematics Association of America, and the Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences. Lay is also co-author of several mathematics texts, including Introduction to Functional Analysis, with Angus E. That said, this is a great textbook for non-mathematics major that finds mathematical writing style too exotic.

More often than not, it does a good job at translating the formula to a sensible sentence, and throughout reading this book it made me realize that mathematical formula isn't more than a language. I didn’t find the explanations particularly easy to follow (compared to a book that doesn’t necessarily want to be completely rigorous everywhere), so the only appeal that might have for some is that it lists a fair amount of applications. Lay is also a coauthor of several mathematics texts, including Introduction to Functional Analysis with Angus E.By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. Written by a true master of the subject and explained in a way that even non-mathematicans can understand. This indicator counts the number of citations received by documents from a journal and divides them by the total number of documents published in that journal. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins.

The mathematicians will probably dislike it due to its emphasis in applications and the lack of proofs. This textbook provides students a theoretical basis which can then be applied to the practical R and Python problems, providing the tools needed for real-world applications. MyMathLab is not a self-paced technology and should only be purchased when required by an instructor. This book developed from the need to teach a linear algebra course to students focused on data science and bioinformatics programs. The author then concludes the main section of the book with a chapter on orthogonality and the least squares method (6) that provides plenty of applications and then a closing chapter on symmetric matrices and quadratic forms that deals with constraint optimization and other applications (7). None of this goes into enough depth to make you an expert (that would be impossible in a one-semester introductory course), or even able to tackle such applications on your own, but it does give you a good understanding of how linear algebra is used and why it is important. I think though that a lot of its attempt to show the use of linear algebra for other topics or in practical application engages in a bit too much handwaving to enable us truly grasp what was going on.
