While we’re on the topic of Tolkien, I would like to remark on something. Amish has been named as Paulo Coelho and Tolkein of India. When I first read this book in 2013, I hadn’t read Tolkien, only heard of him and I felt a measure of pride that an Indian author has been given such a compliment. Now that I have read Tolkien and Coelho, both, I would like to take this statement as a sad testament and proof just how wanting Indian authors are (or maybe I have been unfortunate enough to not have read from any great ones). I mean, I always moderate my expectations when I read an Indian author. I never expect them to cross a certain standard bcz I know what to expect. While no doubt that Amish can write, but imagine the competition around him if his average writing (compared globally) turns to gold by Indian standards! Desk, The News (21 October 2022). "Amish Tripathi to host the third episode of Warner Bros. Discovery's 'The Journey of India' ". MediaBrief . Retrieved 16 February 2023. Amish takes a bunch of Mythical stories, characters, places and weaves them into an excellent plot that moves at a steady pace, holding the reader firmly. He maintains a respectful approach, unlike Devdutt Pattnaik(The Pregnant King), and creates a new world for the readers. Pattanaik, Devdutt (19 September 2010). "Mythology, management and more". Selected as an Eisenhower Fellow ( A prestigious American programme for young global leaders) (2014) The story is set in the land of Meluha and starts with the arrival of the Shiva. The Meluhans believe that Shiva is their fabled savior Neelkanth. Shiva decides to help the Meluhans in their war against the Chandravanshis, who had joined forces with a cursed Nagas; however, during his journey and the fight that ensues, Shiva learns how his choices actually reflect who he aspires to be and how they lead to dire consequences. He immediately fell in love with Sati, fell behind her, and did all the trivial things to impress her. If you consider this, each of us has the potential to achieve our destiny by following the path of justice.

All the people of Meluha are above 100 because of Somras. Somras is an effective medicine for aging and keeping you young forever. Sati Tripathi believes "Myths are nothing but jumbled memories of a true past. A past buried under mounds of earth and ignorance." [2] The book has known characters from Hindu texts as well as those born from Tripathi's imagination; [3] however the former do not inherit all of their classical traits. It felt like a really long bedtime story that you simply read for the sake of reading and maybe, falling asleep. The idea of portraying lord Shiva as 'just a man who went on to become a god' is really cool & a fresh one. Full marks to that. But apart from that everything is horrible. Ayurvati – The Chief of Medicine, Ayurvati is an intelligent and revered woman, who is capable of curing any disease. She is the first to realize that Shiva is the "Neelkanth", their savior. [13]

[11] [12] Career [ edit ] As an author [ edit ]In 2019, Amish was appointed to a diplomatic role as Director , The Nehru Centre in London, India's Amish is an IIM (Kolkata) educated, banker turned award-winning author. The success of his debut book, The Immortals of Meluha (Book 1 of the Shiva Trilogy), encouraged him to give up a fourteen-year-old career in financial services to focus on writing. He is passionate about history, mythology and philosophy, finding beauty and meaning in all world religions. Before I tell you what this book is about, let me tell you what its NOT about because I feel that is more important. In January 2012, Karan Johar's Dharma Productions bought the film rights of The Immortals of Meluha. Johar said that he was "blown away with the world of Meluha and rivetted by Amish's creation of it." The director was confirmed to be looking into the finer details of the production, along with the screenplay. [36] Though initially rumored that Karan Malhotra's Shuddhi was to be the film adaptation of the book, it was a different film. [37] [38] In September 2013, Johar announced that Malhotra would be directing The Immortals of Meluha, but only after the release of Shuddhi. [39] Tripathi also revealed during Jaipur Literature Festival that an unnamed Hollywood producer bought the rights for an American version of the film. This led to speculation in the media whether Johar would indeed helm the film or the release would be an American production. [40] In January 2015, Tripathi confirmed that the film adaptation was on-going and would have the biggest budget of any film series. [41] Malhotra started adapting the story into a film script, with Tripathi acting as creative consultant and reviewer. [42] Ram? Maika - The place which all Meluhan women visit to give birth to new borns. The babies are kept in supreme secrecy to ensure anonymity of parentage. Once the child grows up, they sit for examinations to be selected in their chosen tribes. Let’s start with the plus-points: I thought the story was brilliant. Amish Tripathi’s imagination is fantastic. The idea that Gods were originally humans, elevated to divine status by their karma, is awe-inspiring. The twists and turns are well-executed and keep you guessing. The way the author has so seamlessly combined history with mythology is astonishing. Really, I loved the story.Unfortunately, no matter how much I have tried, I have decided in the end that I am not a fan of Tripathi’s work
