Because of this, Pyra/Mythra are the respective second and third fighters whose Fighter Spirits are marked as "Name (Fighter)", due to already having regular spirits in the base game. Pyra and Mythra have their own separate announcer calls used on the character selection screen and their victory poses. Pyra is usually seen to be very doubtful of her worth and considers herself to be a burden and a danger to others. Due to this, she originally wants to go to Elysium alongside Mythra to ask the Architect for their death, which they could normally not obtain due to their condition as Blades. Pyra remains in stasis for 500 years, until Torna discovers the location of the Ancient Ship and send a salvaging team to haul it up. This team includes Rex, a Leftherian boy, who touches Pyra's sword accidentally upon discovering her, forcing Jin to kill him. As Rex has touched the sword, Pyra is able to talk to him through in a memory of Elysium, and she asks him if he will become her Driver and take her to Elysium. Rex agrees and is resurrected with part of Pyra's Core Crystal sustaining his heart, and the two fight their way off the ship, escaping Torna with the help of Azurda. Pyra's P2 costume was intially too dark and its colors were brightened to be more in line with Pneuma.Blazing End had its collision activate earlier to better match the animations and its animation changed to be more visual from certain camera angles. When fighting both Master Hand and Crazy Hand in Classic Mode, Pyra (or Mythra) will start on the far left side of the stage rather than in the center. Pyra and Mythra are the first DLC newcomers and transforming characters to be semiclones, albeit of each other rather than of a preexisting fighter. Early in the game, a certain event causes Pyra to transform into a different Blade, known as Mythra. She holds power over Light. Compared to Pyra, Mythra is harsh and does not mince her lines, but still has a soft spot for people. Like Pyra, her wish to return to Elysium remains.

Pyra and Azurda are the only major protagonists in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 who are never fought against in any way in the Xenoblade Chronicles series. Coincidentally, their games of origin were in consideration to have playable fighters for the base game, but the base game roster had already been finished by then, making the idea infeasible. Nintendo revealed the addition of Pyra and Mythra during a Nintendo Direct presentation in February. The pair appear in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as main character Rex’s two-in-one ally, and they’re invited to Smash Bros. later this month.
