When in ‘Game’ mode, Hisense is claiming a response time of 6ms for the E7K Pro (in 55-inch size) - which, if it’s anywhere near accurate, makes this TV rapid in the extreme. This is the second time I've bought this brand of TV the other being an older 58" 4K which is a great TV.

Our guess would be that the 55A7GQ’s issues are down to a combination of its IPS panel and its budget QD colour system. This high flicker frequency isn't noticeable to most people, but it can cause headaches if you're sensitive to flicker. By the time you’ve combined the limited brightness with the 55A7GQ’s lack of black level depth, though, you’ve got HDR images that scarcely look HDR at all. It also has an impressive color gamut in HDR and great color volume, so HDR movies look vibrant and lifelike. The 55A7GQ delivers a native 4K resolution and support for the HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision high dynamic range formats. This is because they reduce the intensity of bright image highlights, leaving you with fewer distractions from the grey mush elsewhere. Surely that can't be right - I've tried to ask Sue, but she continues to ignore me (thanks again Sue). Skin tones look slightly more detailed and less plasticky, and colour tones enjoy a little more finesse, helping the picture look slightly more three-dimensional and 4K. A signature is required, so if no-one is available they will leave a card to arrange a suitable time.

The Hisense E7K Pro is a 4K QLED TV with full-array backlighting (which Hisense refers to as ‘DLED’ for some reason) and a quad-core processor. Similarly, i was worried when i couldn't find the remote control - but again I'm just a cretinous boomer - there's probably some bint named Alexa or Siri or Sue living inside the box who'll turn the TV on if you shout loud enough. Hisense does provide a couple of picture tweaks we hoped might help us get a handle on things: a range of picture presets and an Adaptive Contrast mode with multiple settings. It respects the content creator's intent, as it has good tone mapping, and it tracks the PQ EOTF well, up to a smooth roll-off near the TV's peak brightness.

When that 55-inch TV also happens to offer a number of mid-range features, though, you’re in potential bargain of the year territory. Unfortunately though, the upscaling seems to make little if any effort to distinguish source noise from real image information, and so ends up sharpening and emphasising noise as well as ‘real’ image information. The built-in Google TV smart platform has a great selection of streaming apps, and with built-in hands-free voice control, you can quickly find your favorite shows. There’s also support for a wider colour gamut than regular LCD TVs deliver, backed up by a Quantum Dot colour system. For video content, it doesn't cause any issues, but if you're planning on using this TV as a PC monitor, this reduces text clarity a bit, although there are easy workarounds for it.
