Description

Birds continue to arrive in the UK from more northerly regions to spend the next few months here in our warmer winters, before. I strongly recommend this book to any student studying botany and the like , and to anyone interested in wild flowers , grasses , ferns and so on .

Comparison pages show different leaf shapes and flower clusters to enable quick and easy navigation to the right section of the book to make your identification. Featuring all flowering plants, including trees, grasses and ferns, this brand-new field guide to the flowers of Britain and northern Europe is the most complete illustrated, single-volume guide ever published. This is an updated version of a book which was first published in 2009 as the 'Collins Flower Guide', which has been renamed presumably to make it clear that it is a guide to wild flowers rather than those grown in gardens! Featuring all flowering plants, including trees and grasses, and ferns, this fully revised and updated field guide to the wild flowers of Britain and northern Europe is the most complete illustrated, single-volume guide ever published. Collins Flower Guide is an indispensable guide for all those with an interest in the countryside, whether amateur or expert. Following on from its successful launch in 2009, "Collins Wild Flower Guide" - the ultimate reference book for wild flower enthusiasts - now enters its second edition.

A great book as are all Collin's guides and very, very reccommended for all botanists beginner or expert. The only slight fault, that may cause some readers a little consternation, is that the identification key is divided up by genus and spread throughout the book. Similar species have their leaves shown clearly behind the flower and this has allowed me to name a species that has been puzzling me for a couple of years! Spreads are indicated by surrounding icons representing items on the same (double page) spread in a grey box. He has served on the council of the Botanical Society of the British Isles and as chairman of its Conservation Committee and he is president of the Sussex Wildlife Trust. The book has mostly common plants but the serious plant hunter will need companion floras like Stace 3.

The keys have all been improved on and updated (and in some cases rewritten entirely), making the book inherently more accessible.Detailed information on which places to visit in Britain particularly rich in flower species are also included, along with individual maps showing where each species can be found. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). Experience the joy of discovering the natural world around you with this beautiful pocket guide to British wild flowers, an inspiration and treat designed to enthral all nature lovers. The introduction does explain everything you need to know, and it is essential for the laymen to read it; be patient and when in doubt, use either alternate bookYouTube as a supplemental tutor for identification.
