It has the Hoegaarden flavours I remember, but slightly different, almost as if watered down with lemonade as I alluded to before. This is certainly not a bad thing in my opinion, and though it may be a bit carby, Hoegaarden Wit Blanche 0.0 will be on my shopping list in the future. Bursting with flavour and very different from the standard bitters and lagers I was previously drinking, it would sometimes confuse my fellow drinkers. “Why are you drinking that banana beer?”, I would get asked as I was lifting a hexagonal glass to my lips. The taste was certainly one that took a while to get used to, but opened me up to a world of wheat beers that previously I didn’t know about. Scotch was born in Scotland. Hoegaarden was born in Hoegaarden. At press time we have no idea where Nesquik comes from. The recipe was passed down through generations, and in the 18th century, the village became one huge Hoegaarden brewery. In 1726 alone, Hoegaarden had 36 breweries and 110 malt houses. However, in 1957, the village’s last brewery closed down, leading to the villagers vying to preserve the original recipe. The feel is at first quite refreshing, but the wheat seems to make this beer a bit heavier, both in the stomach and on the palate. The finish is quite long, and combined with the warm and almost cozy feeling from the spices, makes this beer more of an armchair/nap time beer than I ever would have expected.
