Description

Essentially, you want to pair them up with units that can offer useful keywords, add some Aim tokens to the pool, or let you throw lots of dice in the hopes of scoring more criticals. Keep your distance and Standby Star Wars: Legion is played over the course of six rounds as you and your opponent duel over objectives on a battlefield of the Galactic Civil War. At the end of six rounds, the player with the most victory tokens (earned from objectives) wins the game. C – Viable. Units that can be good in specific builds that are designed to feature them, or units that support other more foundational units reasonably well but don’t stand up on their own. The landspeeder got some huge cuts in the last points update, making players reconsider if that Unstable Astromech double hardpoint build actually is any good after all. Turns out a strong seven dice pool tapped twice in a row actually does quite a bit of work if you’re looking for an alpha strike build, and now you can do that for as little as 108 points. You can of course still put R2 in one of these if you want, to double as some repair insurance while threatening to score that extra point. Rebel Vets and Mark II Medium Blaster Most of the units, with all the emplacement troopers, ask you to play more passively. Unfortunately that doesn’t win games! However, we need to leverage our greatest strength.

On the other hand, High Velocity and Pierce are highly valued commodities, especially in a meta where the already-good dodge and red save spam that GAR is capable of has become even better with the functional deletion of Force Choke from the scene. Though sniper strikes got the double whammy of cover changes making it much harder to line up light/no cover shots with their small pools and the short end of the wound allocation rules, they’re still a necessary part of the Rebel roster, especially when there isn’t another obvious value for their still-reasonable price point. X-34 Landspeeder

The recon intel on the vets also allows for forward deployment of the MkII’s for some cheeky fire support shots. This is the Way

The Rebellion is made up of beings from countless worlds, all standing united in opposition to the tyranny of the Empire. No matter what world they hail from, every Rebel trooper dedicates their life to fighting on the front lines for the cause of the Rebellion. Now, you can add even more diversity to your Rebel ranks with the new miniatures and upgrades found in the Rebel Troopers Upgrade Expansion. The recent points update brought quite a few cuts to a slew of Rebel units, shuffling around the internal balance of the factions and (hopefully) allowing the recently struggling Rebel Alliance to compete with their red save nemeses. We’ll take a look at how things shake out for the Rebel roster after the points update. Also, while I’m sure Ewoks will shake things up, they aren’t actually out yet so they won’t be included on this list. Vallejo Coarse Pumice is a great texture for your bases. You can also use sand mixed with PVA (Elmer’s white) glue to get the same texture-type effect. Apply onto the base with a flat spreader, then apply a primer once the texture is completely dry. Not being able to bring Shriv is a pain, but these guys can still put in some work and are some of the only armor piercing you got. Command Cards

Rebel Troopers Upgrade Expansion–You do want this, purely on the basis of the DLT-20a. Its a fairly potent Range 4 gun that allows your troopers to take shots at the enemy from a relatively safe distance, and still do decent damage once you close the gap. The downside is the financial cost can add up, if you’re trying to get one for every one of your trooper units that means you’ll eventually be looking at up to 4 of them. If you want to hold off, the Z6s you got with the rebel troopers can do in a pinch, even though their role is very different. The excellent Rebel Trooper Captain also comes in this box; he gives a unit of Rebel Troopers some suppression mitigation and a training slot, which you’ll want to fill with Situational Awareness to deal with rampant critical hits in the game. Second Priority

I’m loving Din. I like manoeuvrability and speed. Operative Luke can take a few turns to get into the action, and chances are he’s getting shot at all the way there, and he’s such a huge investment to only be useful in melee, but Din can be in people’s faces turn one or two depending on some deployments. I agree with the above poster and your post about generic mandos being too fragile. Their speed is good, but one wound … ouch. I invested so much I still haven’t tried some of what I got … pathfinders, lasers, Tauntauns … the landspeeder was the most underwhelming unit I’ve tried so far. If the T-47 is hurting from the obscene level of Impact necessitated by Dark Troopers existing, AT-RTs are absolutely crippled by it. The humble AT-RT has always been fragile despite it’s Armor keyword, and with everyone bringing huge quantities of Impact they just melt. SwoopsGunline heroes like Lando and Cassian are natural fits. They can easily be placed at range 3 (or more, with Cassian) in easy view of the same target as the Medium Blaster and their contribution to the damage pool can make a huge difference. Both characters add Pierce 1 which is always a welcome boon. Lando adds Sharpshooter 2, letting you ignore cover while Cassian adds Tactical (feeding much needed aim tokens to your Critical 2) along with Marksman (for potentially more crits if you already hit your two surges). The rebel alliance’s biggest strength has been it’s vast number of hero options. The number of S tier heroes outpaces every other faction, which means that by sheer number alone the Rebels will have some winners here. You may not get some of the greats like Cassian or Lando but you got enough here to work with. Leia Organa Also worth noting was that this was the introduction of Vigilance for the command slot and Seize the Initiative and Outmaneuver for the training slot. While Anakin had already come with Vigilance, this was the first time it came to the Rebels, and probably the faction that has benefitted from its inclusion the most. Rebels eat up dodge tokens like candy, due to their poor saves. Along the same lines, Outmaneuver was the exact right fix at the right time. Ways to spawn more crits had become increasingly more common over the game’s lifetime, and Outmaneuver saw a way to counter that problem. The card became so popular, people began taking Captains on their basic troopers just to get Outmaneuver. With the recent, rather hefty, price increase that likely is going to go away. In October the Clone Wars set would come out, so things slowed down for rebels for the rest of the year while the new factions got more of a focus on unit releases to help bring them up to speed, so we won’t see anything new until next year. January 2020 – Rebel Trooper Upgrade Expansion, Luke Skywalker (Operative) and R2-D2 You may take one of these for each Rebel Veteran you take, and they’re generally worth it when the option is there. At 38 points it helps offset the cost of the Rebel Vet, and they’re excellent for establishing killzones. With Fire support they can throw extra dice into the pool of another unit, and it does not have to be the Veteran unit. Han, Leia or the Officer can add sharpshooter to the pool if they they fire together, for example. If there aren’t any good targets for them, it is wise to keep them on standby with their built in sentinel. Their chief role is to guard important zones. Support

Padme– Padme is a fantastic support unit with multiple options and can also use that Secret Mission keyword to get you those extra points. Inferno Squad/Special Forces– These units are a fantastic add to your army especially when Iden is in the mix. Again, there is a lot of options when these boys are in play.Airspeeder– If you want to grab an Airspeeder early (and who wouldn’t) that’s still fine. It’s a solid heavy unit that sees a lot of play since its buff. To get the most out of it however, you’ll probably want two. They can be difficult to hit but when they are, they go down fast so bring some redundancy. This is a lot of points, so your list is going to be leaning on these. Scout Trooper Strike Team– These long range snipers are a great clean up crew and add even more of that sweet suppression. If you plan on playing outside of your home at any point in the future either competitively or just at a store you will need to get Priority Supplies and Vital Assets. And of course, perhaps the most entertaining way you can customize your army is by painting and customizing your miniatures! All Star Wars: Legion minis come unpainted, so after you assemble your army, you’ll be able to paint your miniatures into something that only you could have created. Although you don’t need to paint your miniatures, many players find it more enjoyable to play with a painted army, and even if you’ve never painted an army of miniatures before, Star Wars: Legion is the perfect introduction to the hobby. Keep an eye on the support section below for Star Wars: Legion painting tutorials.
