Molly was my favourite! Molly was so kind, caring and I felt so much warmth radiating from her! She is the definition of ‘homely’, I felt so at home when she was around and in a strange way she brought happiness and comfort to me. I would LOVE to sit in her teashop, I’d probably spend all my time in there drinking tea, sampling the gorgeous cakes and having a chat with the other lovely local people! Billy hated the idea, especially as, in his own words, he can happily provide for the both of us. It was difficult to explain that the thought of living off him and flying aimlessly through my days my days made me want to vomit. But he took it well, even if he didn't agree with it."

JC: That was my suggestion, I mean it was and it wasn’t. It wasn’t because I suggested it that they did it, but obviously when he was their choice I was delighted that it had been my initial suggestion. I think he would be great, so I do hope it happens.I'm sorry. I can see I'm out of kilter with most readers on this but this book just didn't work for me. Waitress and film star fall in love - that's fine. I use that too in one of my books. But this film star is just too good to be true. He's constantly smiling and laughing, using out of kilter phrases for his age, and is just so sweet that I couldn't believe in him. Yet I guess he's why the book appeals to so many. We all want film stars/pop stars to be lovely people and fall in love with ordinary people - just like us. Billy needed flaws. The only real hiccup came from something that wasn't his fault and even though he tried his best to sort it out, we have a heroine who aggravated me so much, I wanted to strangle her. JC: And the images of that film have stayed with me ever since. But I think there is a certain intensity to the film images that you see at that age. Maybe you become more inured to them from your twenties onwards, but thinking about it, I must have seen Don’t Look Now maybe the year I saw Fedora for the first time. These films are slightly linked in my mind.

I also, funnily enough, as in the first book I didn't have any problems, couldn't engage with Sophie and Billy. They seemed a little too flat for my liking, their dialogues felt wooden and too forced and it really surprised me, as I still can remember the lovely feeling I had about them from "Billy and Me". I am also not sure what to think about Billy's family, maybe except for his brother and one of his sisters. The rest of the family was, well, I don't know, lazy? In any case, they benefited from Billy's fame and money. I could understand that his mother was bothered and wanted him to continue his career, but I also couldn't stop thinking that she was doing it for her own comfort and convenience. I don't know, there was something in her that made me want to yell at her, shake her and point her in the direction of the next job. And these are not only Sophie and Billy that are so different, but their families as well, they couldn't be more different - while Sophie's is small and quiet, Billy's is large and loud, and it was nice to see those contrasts. At first I found it quite difficult to get into the story, it is quite slow to start setting the scene and really getting the readers acquainted with Sophie. I found it quite hard to like Sophie, for all you get to know her and her story; her character is quite weak and sometimes hard to believe. What I did find easy to believe was Sophie's secret which was an on-going theme throughout the story, although it wasn't a gripping secret when it finally was revealed, so I was a bit disappointed when it did come to light.Billy and I like a good beer buzz early in the morning” → “I like a good beer buzz early in the morning” ✅ Looks good! Charming, heart-warming and utterly romantic, Billy and Me is an unforgettable story that will completely capture your heart. I read to the end plainly because I was curious. I would've given it a one star because it was horrific to read (it sounded like something a GCSE level student would write) but the end of Part 3 and Part 4 were easier to read (despite Sophie being as ridiculous as before) and were very sweet.

The writing style is terrible. I'm sure the author is a wonderful person (well, she looks like she is) but she can't write for sure. I could totally relate to Sophie, though, which was quite nice. Also, I really liked Billy of course, and one of his sisters was great. Billy and me like a good beer buzz early in the morning” → “Me like a good beer buzz early in the morning” ❌ Big nope! One that she's successfully kept for years. It's meant that she's had to give up her dreams of going to university and travelling the world to stay in her little village, living with her mum and working in the local teashop. I found Sophie and Billy a little bland. Had they been a dish, I'd have called for more pepper. Please. More pepper. Chili. Make it extra hot.
