I didn’t tweak the EQ settings (which can be found in the accompanying JBL application), but even out of the box I was impressed with how balanced everything sounded. There are better-sounding earbuds on the market, but they’re not as price-friendly as the Free 2. The house-inspired style of Drake’s new album sounded alive and kinetic. The drums on Soccer Mommy’s “shotgun” rattled and hummed. Even slower songs like The Rolling Stones’“Moonlight Mile” played well. The earbuds are more than suited to the task of playing all of your favorite music. The JBL Endurance Peak 2 have a weight of 26g . We consider a lower weight better because lighter devices are more comfortable to carry. Included are 3 ear tip sizes, and 2 gel sizes, short charging cable, charging case and of course the earbuds. Please note this is the JBL FREE X headphones - apparently this newer generation (2) has fixed a bluetooth connectivity problem. Thus far, I have not experienced any bluetooth problems!

Less than 4 months after I bought the item, the right earpiece cover already separated from the based, leaving a 2-piece earpiece that I may need a glue to keep them together (no fall of the earpiece recorded that could explain such issue). Will attempt to return for exchange. Not sure if Best Buy will allow it. Speaking of fit, JBL includes three sets of ear tips: small, medium, and large. The small and large tips come in a small cardboard box, while the medium are already fitted on the earbuds out of the box. In my case, the medium tips were a perfect fit. JBL FREE II is very compact in appearance design. The charging case adopts an oval cobblestone shape. The earphones are bean-shaped in-ear design, with ring indicator lights and JBL brand LOGO, which are very recognizable. In the configuration, it uses a high-quality 5.8mm high-sensitivity dynamic driver, bluetooth 5.0 chip, with JBL iconic sound effects; supports call noise reduction, IPX4 waterproof, and has a battery life of 6+18 hours.The JBL Live Free 2 offer great noise cancellation and call quality, both of which can be important features. Listening to music is fine, but it could be better. Still, this is a quality set of earbuds for the price. Sounds over 80 decibel (dB) can start to damage hearing. Sounds over 120 dB immediately damage hearing. The severity of the damage depens on how often and how long the sound is present. When I started listening to them, the first thing I noticed was that the JBL Live Free 2 are very bass-forward. I also realized I wasn't a fan of any of the EQ modes. I started trying to create a custom EQ curve, but no matter what, it seemed to emphasize unpleasant frequencies.

Having a value of IPX7, the JBL Endurance Peak 2's rating is read as, the first number of X denotes that no data available to specify a protection rating, and of liquids that they are protected against temporary immersion in water under set conditions, say 1 metre for 30 minutes. The first Bluetooth device, a hands-free headset, was released in 1999. That seems like forever ago. Now Bluetooth is everywhere in cars, watches, home automation, phones, and more. In 2022, it’s difficult to imagine life before Bluetooth. I can vividly remember white headphones with dangling cords ubiquitously jammed into every pair of ear holes while walking through the airport. Bluetooth has freed us all from the strangling cord of audio doom. I have several pairs, but as a Gadgeteer, I’m always looking for the next best thing. I have some experience with JBL speakers but wanted to have a look at their latest earbuds, the Live Free 2s, to see if they can bring musical joy. The app also features an equalizer. There are a few EQ presets (more on these later), but you can also set a custom EQ curve yourself. Using the app, you can also switch between adaptive noise cancellation and what JBL calls Ambient Sound Mode, which is also known as Transparency mode. many people have a misconception that driver units of a bigger size automatically produce better sound quality. Opening the box, you have a charger/carry case, the two ear pieces, a charging cable and the instructions. There are three ear tip covers included and two gel sizes that actually fill the ear cavity when placed over the ear bud, so there are plenty of ways to make sure you have a great fit with these ear buds.The battery and the main board are connected by wire welding, and the main board is fixed on the cavity by a plurality of screws. I have used a number of wireless headphones over the years and these JBL’s have so far been one of my favorites!
