I mean, I didn’t know about farming in the high fells, or Whitehaven, or Barrow, or the Cumbrian coast. However, the author's honesty, modesty, and decency shine through these pages - and if this makes others aware of the challenges people and animals around the world are facing, and are motivated to act, reading the 'shade' will be well worth while. The book was written during the pandemic lockdown and shows a great use of time by a traveller unable to travel. It’s places and situations that aren’t often on the telly and perhaps people aren’t adequately aware of.

Recently, TV 'personalities' have been churning out books to fill a financial blackhole induced by the pandemic. My god, the team kept me in the water for ages to get all the different shots, but it was spectacular. We’re poisoning ourselves out of existence, and our consumer capitalist democracies seem incapable of stopping it. Biography: Simon Reeve is an author and adventurer who has travelled to more than 130 countries, making multiple award-winning TV series exploring and explaining the world.

Journeys to Impossible Places : In Life and Every Adventure

In Journeys to Impossible Places, best-selling author and presenter Simon Reeve reveals the inside story of his most astonishing adventures and experiences, around the planet and close to home. His personal battles are very informative and so I really appreciate him not holding back with details. It’s a story about the choices we all make every day, following either the darkness that blinds us to who we really are, or the light that shows us how precious we have always been. For me, it felt very open and honest as well as being extremely interesting and a great accompaniment to Simon’s TV series. It’s not that I want to make up for lost time, because I don’t feel I lost any but pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and doing lots of different things makes you feel more alive, frankly.

He was rebellious, drinking too much and failing exams, and by the age of 17 found himself standing on a bridge staring “into the final abyss”, but he struggled on and slowly began to transform his life. An autobiography that is more profound than many “self-help books” that takes you on a real rollercoaster. He confesses to being a travel addict, and his struggles with not being able to travel at the moment are very relatable.Looking back at the experiences and adventures I’ve had, there’s been beauty and danger, thrills and the unknown. Simon shares what his unique experiences and encounters have taught him, and the deeper lessons he draws from joy and raw grief in his personal life, from desperate struggles with his own fertility and head health, from wise friends, fatherhood, inspiring villagers, brave fighters, his beloved dogs, and a thoughtful Indian sadhu. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. The author also tells the tale of how and why they relocated to Devon and how the countryside of Devon was so important to his family during lockdown. The endless facts about how our natural world is being threatened makes for quite harrowing reading and will, hopefully, inspire change.

Whether he’s in Ravenglass or Rwanda, it’s imperative to him he’s surprised or shocked every day during filming. I’d recommend also watching his relevant travel documentaries afterwards to fully place the scenarios and places he talks about. Once again, Simon took us on an exciting, educational and dangerous trip around the world, and in all this he did'n forget the most important thing - himself, his family and emotions. We walked down to the end of the garden and, looking out across the Baltic Sea, he told me his partner was pregnant. Adventurer Simon Reeve is a self-confessed travel addict who’s spent the last two decades touring the world. Alongside all this Simon Reeve tells stories from his journeys around the equator, tropics of Capricorn and Cancer , the Indian Ocean and along Sacred Rivers.
